We coordinated a company mixer here with many of the employees flying in from all over the US. After researching so many venues in Des Moines I fell in love with this venue. It was a bonus that it is so close to the downtown Marriott because we didn't have to worry about transportation from the hotel. We wanted the vibe of laid back and comfortable event for people to engage, but with a theme. Hello, Marjorie was exactly what we needed for the vibe and exactly what I expected from the photos. No catfish here! Nick worked with our caterers before I arrived and we rearranged a few things to create a family-style buffet and appetizer bar. Although this place would work well with just the music they play, we wanted something special. We brought in Rock It Man Entertainment for a solo piano show and it was such a phenomenal time. Jon is the owner of Rock It Man and he drove in himself to ensure we had the crowd engagement I was going for. The signature cocktails and friendly staff really elevated the night. The manager (so sorry I forgot the name) even let me borrow the polaroid camera if we bought film. It was such a nice touch for our Mad Men Era Theme. The lighting was perfect and the story behind this place all made this venue exactly what was needed to bring a group together from all over for a good time, in Iowa! This was my first time in Iowa and leaving sunny San Diego to a "heat wave" of 37 degrees was a daunting feeling but I can say I WISH we had a Hello, Marjorie in San Diego! Although this is an experience of a private event, I can say this place is truly special a...
Read moreLast week, my friends told me that if I didn't give Hello Marjie 5 stars, they would do things I shouldn't repeat on here. I told them it was ridiculous I had to also give the food five stars even though it was just a bar and only sold drinks, so they argued "Food" means "Drinks" when it's a bar. So I told them that's confusing and shouldn't work like that, and if I do it, it's letting dumb decisions win, which is already way too common. So they took my phone and did that specific part for me, then we got tacos. The silly goobers never bothered to make sure it stayed up, so I deleted it immediately. Although, today, I decided to stop in to see if they had a good reason to make such horrifying threats to me. Those threats should have been pure evil because this place rocked my socks off! Very spacious with intriguing decor all around. They’re signature drinks were delicious and surprisingly unique while still slaying it on the classics. I'm terrible with names, but all staff I spoke with had very pleasant energy, especially the host. I will definitely be returning several times and telling my friends to just invite people instead because the place will speak for itself! I'm even gonna give it five stars for the dumb food category, but know it means for...
Read moreLet me set the scene.. we were just leaving the Hamilton show close by (highly recommended that btw) and we wanted some drinks to close out the night. We came to Hello, Marjorie and had the BEST time! The vibes and atmosphere is just chefs kiss. We were warmly welcomed when we entered and got a seat. Even asking us about if we went to the show. I was amazed that he even knew. I think our souvenirs gave it away ;) But that’s ok! Our waitress for the night so fun! It could have been the couple of drinks we had or the high of show. But she recommended an amazing drink that complimented my first drink and whoa! This is where I was blown away by the staff.. Last call was made and things were wrapping up. We assured them that we’ll be out soon. Just waiting for our Uber to arrive. They were super understanding and even insisted we wait inside with them until our car arrived instead of waiting along outside. They were even so kind enough so have a male bartender walk us to our car to make sure we made it safely and did end up on the 6am news for 2 missing moms. Wow! Wow! Wow! We laughed, we had the best drinks and we were welcomed from...
