Terrace Hill was so lovely and very interesting. Video in carriage house was informative and provided a great background for tour. Guide was knowledgeable and answered our questions even though we were keeping her longer. Fortunately we were her last tour. The photo is of a caster bean plant. Terrace Hill plays host to the finest outdoor cultural events in the summer and houses a rich history all year round! My favorite last year was a tribute to Romeo and Juliet held on the lawn. We brought a romantic picnic and enjoyed the general splendor of a live jazz performance opening for the production by Shakespearience. Can't wait to attend...

Toured with a small group and found the docent to be very knowledgeable and helpful and willing to look up info on questions she didn't know offhand. The home is beautiful and although the tour is short, it's well worth it. Lots of unique history behind this governor's mansion!

I would label this a must-do if you are in the Des Moines area. The mansion is beautiful and there’s actually quite a bit to see here. The tour is super affordable ($5) and our docent was very knowledgeable. The history behind the house is really cool and it’s very pretty.
