Great late night spot if you want to pick up a slice! If I end up on Ingersoll I'll usually stop here at the end of the night. They didn't have any slices ready Tuesday evening but they were nice and made a pizza with toppings we wanted so we could grab some slices after checking out a few shops. I'm sure they had no issues selling the rest. Their pizza is the bomb! My first time having it was after suffering COVID in early 2021. Let me tell you, it was magic after having lost my smell and taste. Maybe it's what brought it back! I'll always have love for this place! There's a few seats inside but we usually just grab a slice and go. Love the staff here! But, the pizza, is the main reason I keep coming back. Perfect crust, just enough sauce, great flavor combos...A++

After over 20 years I revisited Big Tomato Pizza after I had moved out of town. Big Tomato's angle is the comprehensive ingredient list of some 47 items to choose from, including apples, hotdogs, pickles, spinach, and spam... 3 types of crusts, New York Style herbal white, honey wheat, and gluten free. 4 types of sauces, red, alfredo, cajun, pesto sauce... also calzones with 2 toppings, iltalian fries. Everything made feash daily, they buy local meats and cheeses. Delivery to almost anywhere until 3 am, fee is 1.50, 10.00 minimum, pizza by the slices. Very limited seating, dine in not really an option, even smaller parking choices, possible rude servers, I was ignored for about 10 mins before somebody set my pizza in motion

This place is definitely not for the faint of heart, the owner and the employees seem to be unapologetically themselves. For me, I value that because a happy business owner creates the best for his clients. That being said, we got out of a concert around midnight, and the only place open was this little gem. Their pizza menu is pretty straightforward. We decided on the big tomato pizza and we were not disappointed. Got a few music tips and an awesome experience at the end of it. Definitely worth a midnight run.

Ok first, I never write reviews panning a place. I've written a few to rave about someplace I like, but never to pan one. Don't go here! Don't order delivery, don't even give them a second thought, they don't want your business. I am in town on business and ordered from them last night, the pizza was ok, but arrived quite cold and more than a little burnt. The service was...somewhat attitude ridden. But the flavor was good, and they have some interesting menu options right, and hey, i'm a New Yorker, so the attitude wasn't that big a deal to me?

So I decided to give them another shot tonight (given the relatively limited number of late night options in downtown Des Moines for a food delivery). So I place my order and ask the guy for a side of their Cajun sauce to dip my crusts in, and the guy say's, "You ordered last night didn't you....i got in trouble for doing that side of cajun." I'm like, really, why is that, and he's like, "...it's too much trouble...." So I say, "Really, it's too much trouble to put a little sauce in a cup?"

I ended up not ording the pizza. These guys let an order go rather than put a little sauce in a cup....wow....that has to be the worst customer service i've ever...

HORRENDOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE & MEDIOCRE PIZZA. I ordered a pizza for delivery and was told it would arrive in around an hour. Over 30 minutes later they called back to tell me that they couldn't deliver to my place after all and had to cancel the order. However I was still charged full price. When I noticed the charge on my account a couple of days later I called them for the first time to request a refund. I was told to wait 3-5 business days for the money to appear back in my account. So 6 business days later I called back and was told that the only person who could help me was the business owner & that I needed to call back between the hours of 9-11 in the morning, when he would be in. So I called a 3rd time and got no answer. I called back a 4th and final time and was told that the owner was not in and to try back the following week. Over the course of 4 phone calls nobody apologized, offered to take a message, or give me a callback. I finally had to dispute the charge through my bank. Side note, I tried the pizza a couple of days after my initial order and it was average. You can get much better pizza elsewhere & don't need to give your money to a business that at best is negligent and...

We drove a few hours out of our way to have Big Tomato pizza, as we had some delivered about a month ago while in town. It was incredible, the sauce was wonderful and the crust, a wonderful replication of New York Style, foldable, and fairly thin.

So tonight we are driving cross-country, and chose to go through Des Moines for more GOOD pizza. We ordered the exact same pizza as before, and what we got was a weirdly dense, deep-dish type pizza.

A huge bummer.

I asked the gal behind the counter if we got the right crust, and she nonchalantly said that yes we did… but there was a new guy, and it was his first day. She really truly didn’t care that we were bummed about the pizza. No offer to make another, which would have been nice, even though we would have refused.

Anyway, there is something in the window about lousy customer service, or something to that effect.

So, no surprise really. But that gross crust really took away from the sauce they have that’s pretty good, but it is what it is.

Moral of the story, make sure whomever is making your pizza is not...
