Wayne County Family Aquatic Center — Attraction in Detroit

Sorry to say this was the worse experience ever to my family and my grand kids here first let say the life guards are very rude u believable how that act the fowl language that came out of there mouth considering it was a family and kid oriented place all you heard all day is my kids getting G the whistle blow. At for just being in the pool kept telling them to get back behind the line so idk ally went to one of the life guards and ask what’s the problem he said they don’t know how to swim i said what yes they do and besides im in the water right next to them especially when no waves were coming I seen and watch them and at one point when the waves starting coming my daughter reached for my grandson and told him to come in a little closer so she grabbed on to her arm and she pulled him and the life guard blew the whistle and didn’t say politely she yelled and said you can’t hold on. To him let go of him So my daughter said it’s my nephew I’m pulling closer the life guard yelled back you dont like it u can leave. Then over at the slide one of the life guards were walking around with there family or friends one that was yelling at us at the wave pool she was too busy playing with her family she had a little girl with her the life guard wanted to take her I On water slide the other life guard said she wasn’t tall enough the life guard said she will be alright I will go down with her mind you it was two single tubes not a double one so she went down and she just held on to the tube I also witness two other boys that wanted to do the same thing g the were told you have to get a double tube they said they just did it they got yelled at and said get a double tube so life guards can say and do what they want rules don’t apply to them but yells and cusses at everybody else then there was one life guards that needs to get a baby suit that fits her web page appropriate attire to wear but I have seen move butts then I wanted to not just customer employees how shameful my grand son has allergies to the sun and he had a white long sleeve swim shirt ones that they wear and it also keeps them cool well he was told he can’t wear that it was a swim attire so we ended up leaving I ask the girl at the front gate if this was aloud she said yes why wouldn’t it be I said he was just told he can’t wear that the two girls up there had a puzzle look on their face not sure why he was told that the life guards very u professional at the wave pool the life guards were two busy taking turns jumping and getting something off the bottom of the pool and playing around...

Clean and fun! A great space in the city for all ages to enjoy but I’m really upset about the no food and drink policy. I am nearly 8 months pregnant and had to dump out my water only to have to buy several bottles of water to stay hydrated throughout my visit for myself and my toddler as it was nearly 100 degrees the day we visited. Additionally, having healthy snacks on hand for my toddler to refuel as he plays is essential, but because I couldn’t bring in any of our packed food, we ended up spending $30 just for admission + food + drinks. And that’s just for 2 people. The food prices are reasonable but it adds up quickly for a family just looking for a few hours of fun to cool off. Not to mention the extreme wait times made my toddler cranky and without any other food options, I was ready to pack up and leave within an hour of arriving. If you’re not going to allow outside beverages at least provide free water or bottle filling stations (not just drinking fountains with warm water) so folks can stay hydrated in the summer sun and heat. And provide more support for food to decrease wait times as well as healthier menu items. The rules around food and drinks here feels like a racist punitive policy towards Detroiters, the city won’t let us have nice things without a cost because of a deep mistrust of its people. Many other outdoor water parks in the state that are located in the burbs (I looked it up after my experience here) allow coolers and outside food and it’s not a problem. Belle isle allows coolers and outside drinks and it’s not a problem. If the park changed this policy I would be there frequently in the summer, but spending $30 + for a few hours of wave pool time is not enticing. I’ll just go...

The aquatic center is nice. The wave pool is nice. Apparently, the first time I went there, there was bird poop in the water slide place and fountain place. They said that they are in process of cleaning, so it would be closed for the day. I feel bad because I took off for that to celebrate a birthday. However, the wave pool was fun. It would have been more worth it if we could enjoy the other amenities. Plan ahead for the food. They take over 30 minutes to bring out the food. Even if you want french fries... 30 minutes.... The customer in front of us was arguing with the food people because they ordered burgers and a drink, and the food person was insisting on giving them their fountain drink early (with no refill) while they wait for the food for a half hour. The customer had a normal request; she wanted the drink along with the food. The food lady would not allow for it. I thought this was kind of crazy... I ordered a pizza, and it had a weird flavor. It tasted almost like old oil, and I was very sick to my stomach that night. That is the reason I would give this the main low review. I would probably return, but would call to make sure all amenities are functional before I do. And I would stay away from pizza and...
