Whittier Manor — Attraction in Detroit

NOT WORTH IT! I do not recommend using this venue for your wedding event. Don’t get me wrong, The Wintergarden space is beautiful (the ballroom was standard) and my wedding was amazing, however, the customer service I experienced at The Whittier was the worst experience I’ve had while planning my wedding.

Communication: They were very unresponsive to both phone calls and emails. After I reserved the venue, I sent an email to the address listed on their website, and provided by their sales rep, and received a response from the owner that stated “I never monitor this email.” Which was very concerning because I would expect that their business email would constantly be monitored.

Customer Service: The “sales representative” was VERY rude and condescending in every conversation I had with her. When bringing up concerns, she would disregard them and/or have an argumentative response. She even stated that I was the only bride she encountered with concerns, and that I can “find another venue.” This conversation took place 2 months before my wedding...imagine being told to find another venue, 2 months before your wedding. Later on, I discovered that there were several other brides that had the same concerns I communicated and that I was not the only one experiencing issues with the venue.

Security cost: There was no mention of security being required in my contractual agreement, but they insisted that I pay for security. When I asked them to identify where in the contract stated security as a requirement, they were unable to do so. I had to go back and forth a few times with them before they finally stated that they will “waive” the security fee (as if they were doing me a favor) and will provide the staff.

If anyone needs more info on why you should NOT utilize this venue, I’d be happy to provide it. I wish you the best with...

I hosted a bridal shower at Whittier. 1-Beautiful room with gorgeous natural light. 2-Valet was appropriately staffed so the guests didn't have challenges.

3-ABSOLUTELY Great caterer- named "Touch of class". Amazing food!

These 3 elements above are the saving grace for venue.

Can't give a 4 or 5 star review because:

They have a refundable cleaning fee that they haven't returned-SHAMEFUL!!!

All the Table Linen was wrinkled (the wrinkles that don't fall out) you may want to bring an iron/steamer with you..some had food stains/ spots. I told onsite staff the table linens looked like it just rolled out of bed. Didn't try to fix, just stated they would share feedback.😐

Bar set up requires your guests to leave banquet room/event to get a drink- very inconsiderate placement for your guests.

Warn guests of the 1/2 inch elevation difference in floor as several people tripped but grateful no one fell. A fall on that marble could be ugly.

Carpet in hallways is lifting-creating a possible...

Here’s an apartment building in downtown Detroit for senior citizens. The building is beautiful. So beautiful they book weddings and events here weekly. However, even with all the money they charge and make from events they do NOT maintain the building past the first floor. There are seniors with NO air conditioning all summer, washers and dryers that have not worked in years causing senior citizens to drag clothes to and from laundry mats, elevators that are out of order often causing seniors to take the stairs (the building has 8 floors)… the biggest issue now is the building is infested with pest/bugs. They are making the seniors, who they have already taken advantage of, pay for the extermination of their units. They are charging thousands of dollars for weddings and have not made the effort to fix the ongoing and steady growing problems for their residents. On top of that, people are paying for their event guest to possibly take home pest to...
