If you have ever wanted to take your special someone somewhere special, this is the place. The Frederick Stearns House has been restored to a level and beyond the original. My wife and I were privileged to relish in the history of the original owner of this wonderful home. The current owner Rachel is in her own right making her own history and has a history worthy to inspire. The will to do what she has done with FSH is bewildering, so much thought and effort has been made to provide interest everywhere you look without being overwhelmed. The quality and sense of comfort and feeling at ease everywhere you look. This is the kind of place my wife and I would like to return to over and over. The pictures will invite you to want to come, the experience of being will leave you wanting for more. Jeffery the manager and also accomplished dance instructor taught me so much in 45 minutes what I didn't learn in 45 years. My wife and I will be coming back to him for lessons once I have and recover from knee surgery. Jeffery's story is so cool, you need to come here to hear it. FSH will show you how grand Detroit once was, it will inspire you to be part of it's Renaissance located next to West Village and Indian Village historic districts and a few hundred yards from the river and parks. Rachel's leap of faith and investment in this grand home makes her another pioneer bringing Detroit back. Her story should be heard first hand. Unbelievable rooms, great people great service are what you will get at FSH. Chef Shanon prepared an excellent meal for diner, then blew us away even more for breakfast the next day. The outdoor area is made for mingling, it's a beautiful garden for spending time with old friends and getting to make new ones. The drinks and the music made our anniversary so special. The basement has been converted to a great speakeasy, the ladies Lounge, darts, large screen T.V. you will enjoy yourself. There are some interesting stories about the renovations to FSH , I feel that these stories are better told by Rachel and Jeffery. All ages, all reasons are good ones to visit this wonderful place. Downtown Abby meets 2022. We will be back as members to enjoy the performances! I forgot to say that they have security cameras tied directly to the Detroit PD throughout the exterior of the facility, we hung out in the garden until 12:30 midnight and felt...
Read moreFirstly i cannot say enough praises about the Fredrick- Stearns House. From the attentive service to the breathtaking home itself. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed warmly by the owner and continously impressed by the history and beauty of the home. There are 3 floors and a basement. The home features a speakeasy style cellar basement with den, a ballroom where dance lessons are offered, two sun-rooms one on the north face the other on the south, a cozy library, a marvelous dining hall, an impressive kitchen, a courtyard style garden, among many other rooms and spaces. Our stay was in the beginning of November and Christmas trees were up making the house glow with a warmth that only the holiday season can bring. There are many antique and vintage pictures, rugs, decorations and furniture to behold during your stay. We stayed in the Zinnea room which features a soft and comfortable king sized bed, a fireplace, plenty of sitting room, a marble bathroom, with jacuzzi tub, shower and dry vanity. It was very very comfortable and we said we wished our bedroom at home was like this because we loved it so much. We were able to come and go as we please and explore the house as we please. The speakeasy in the basement is honor system and allows you to make your own cocktails and enjoy the vibe of the bar. Breakfast is served at 8 and is over by 10 and I highly suggest you set your alarm because it is not to be missed! We were offered fresh coffee, oj, fruit, French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage links, and bacon. The chef was sweet and we thanked him for a great meal. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a nice getaway/staycation. Thank you for a...
Read moreFrederick Stearns House is a beautiful place all depending on your needs for your stay. We were just looking for a single night stay for a weekend evening away and someplace different from normal hotel stays, It was that!
The Dahlia room we stayed in worked for what we needed for a single night and was nice. Bed was comfortable, for awhile, but both my wife and I thought the over soft “cloud top” got to be to much as night went on. The mentioned “rain shower” as is, is a failure. It’s just a rain head mounted to the normal 4” long wall pipe so you end up standing 4 inches from the wall trying to get to the water that has flattened out to an inch wide band. Water temps were good for third floor, but pressure was mild at best. My wife wanted the fireplace lite but we couldn’t get working. Kinda weird hearing other guest walking up stairs and outside your room but adjusted to sounds.
Was confused by the breakfast as we reserved under the B&B price level so knew to expect the coffee, tea, and pastries. But on-line pictures have shown full breakfast so curious how you can option that. And no service times were spoke of. So just kinda wandered into breakfast leftover it felt.
Disappointed the basement bar was not open as they had no one to serve and the “honor system” self serve, I read in another review was not an option I was told. But you could use the room to lounge in if you wanted to BYOB.
I’m sure if a gathering and large group reserved the house with the dance hall and bar, it would be a great place to have everyone together and be a nice memory. But for a single person or couple, maybe a little out of the way and just not our thing.
We did enjoy the stay and it was...
