The website says hours are until 4:00 pm. We were there before 3:00 and were told the tour was full and the door was locked in my face and a closed sign was put up. I had come fromTexas via Muscatine. I think the web site should say that the last tour was at 3:00 if it is. At the Hoover Museum you can sign up for a time so you will not be turned away. I think that would be a better plan. We went to Reagan’s birth place first and the docent there was wonderful. However we left Dixon with a very bad impression. I told the person at Dixon that I had come fromTexas and he said we are more than full. Very disappointing experience. We will not recommend this site unless things change. Is there a gift shop? I don’t know because we weren’t allowed in...

Tour lasted 45 minutes past advertised time but was light on actual information despite the length so I didn't learn much about Reagan as a person or president, which is usually my favorite part of visiting presidential historic sites. I found it ironic that one of the guide's many off topic comments was about the inferiority of the National Parks Service when I've had a better experience at every NPS run site I've visited. Site is meticulously restored, but the tour and visitor center were both uninformative missed opportunities. If you are going to choose one Reagan site in the area, I would recommend the Tampico birth site, which packed as much information in a 30 minute visit with a more professional (also...

The kids went on a field trip here with their homeschool group and it was a wonderful experience. It was a perfect day for the trip which made it even better. Very helpful, informative staff, and we spend a decent amount at the store. I recommend this place to everyone, especially school/homeschool groups. Parents will enjoy it too, so if not in a small group, it may be better to go as a family. Any individual would enjoy this visit as well of course, I mainly mention the groups because of the educational nature of this place. But this is a must for everyone in the area in my opinion, regardless of party affiliation. It's not a political place at all, so don't worry about that,...

I drove to Dixon especially to visit the Boyhood home of President Ronald Reagan. However I should done a little more research as I visited on a Sunday and the site is closed on Sunday's. So I had to be content with walking the grounds and seeing the home from the outside. It was still good to see the boyhood home of the future President. There is a statue of President Reagan standing next to the home however another visitor said it really didn't look much like the President. I tend to agree but it was still nice to see. I was really disappointed that I was not able to tour the house but hopefully I can return one day.

A drive by.. 😎 As a producer/writer, I remember reading about presidents and how to craft the speeches of presidential candidates. There was a writer who prepared the speech President Reagan delivered after the Challenger disaster. (think 🤔 1989) He spoke about the explosions of the space shuttle. This home reminded me of effective writing, how you gain self-confidence in front of an audience, and you learn how to make the best of the time allowed to speak plus….value. Is it fair to ask what VALUE successful public speaking has in your life? Think about that as you pull up to this home. 😉

There are two buildings, visitor center and Reagan home. The visitor center has a 15 minute movie with a lot on his growing up in Dixon. Reagan spent his formative years here. There are also displays to read on various decades of his life. There is a free tour of the well maintained home. Both tour guides were enthusiastic and gave interesting side stories of Reagan’s family life. We spent about 90 minutes total. Cost was free. Not tremendously large or full of artifacts, but a nice facility well worth your time.
