DO NOT COME HERE!!! Came here with my wife and daughter and after about an hr shopping, went to the register and waited as a man was angrily talking on the phone saying, "my mexicans will throw out the garbage". He finished his call looked at our cart and said $40. I said, can you do $30? He angrily said no, take it or get out. My wife said ok can we take out stuff to make it $35 ? He got up in rage and yelled, that's it, get out of my store, your done! He grabbed our cart and proceeded to pick up all the items and put them back. He shouted, get out cheapskates, and began to swear and use vulgarity in front of my family. He started to mockingly speak Spanish to me as he got it my face, yelling GET OUT! It distrurbed the other customers as well, as most dropped there items and quickly left the store. I don't know who this man is, he claimed to be the manager (first said his name was Joe then changed it to Martin) but highly doubtful considering his temperament, child like behavior, anger, vulgarity and disrespect towards my wife and I. He lacked communication skills, common decency and respect, especially towards customers and definitely has anger issues and underlying racial issues as well.
To ownership: if you want to fail as a buisness, continue to employ people like him, it will be a matter of time until you close down as no one will want to shop there. Before we left, he said, in response to me recording his immature behavior, "bad publicity is still publicity "
To customers: if you dont want to be disrespected, verbally assaulted, racially profiled and yelled at for simply (and gently) making a counter offer at a thrift store don't come here.
The lady working next to him is complicit as she also sided with him and unprofessionally told us to leave the store and touched my shoulder as to escort me out (all the while I clearly stated I didnt want to be touched). When asked to speak with the manager, they said he is the manager. As we were leaving, he went outside and sat down for a cigarette, sweating and breathing heavily after his childish rage attack. The other lady followed to calm him down from his tempertantrum realizing they lost all the customers that were in the store. As we walked away, he proceeded to stick up his middle finger at us and continue to harass my wife and daughter swearing at us as we walked away. (Note: during this whole encounter, we never raised our voice, swore or attacked anyone there as they did to us). Here are the pictures of the low class workers at Ultimate treasure. We have the full video that we will provide to the proper authorities and upload at a later time.
We will escalate this issue to the owner, city, city officials, bbb and township in order to keep customers safe from verbal harassment/assault as well as racial profiling and...

Ultimate Treasures in Downers Grove tried to deny my friend access to their store for having a service dog.
on sunday afternoon i picked up my friend to get iced coffee and go thrifting. he had just flown in from Arizona a few days prior with his service dog, Rhubarb Pie. we decided to check out Ultimate Treasures in Downers Grove but the moment we stepped into the building two employees gave us a very hard time about Rhuby. a man working the cash register asked my friend to leave his dog in the car, to which my friend responded by just informing the man that she is a service dog. the interaction should have ended there, but it didn’t. the man then told my friend “well you can stay right there then” meaning in the doorway, that he wasn’t allowed to enter the building any further. this is disability based discrimination and violates ADA. my friend informed the man of this, and then a woman who had been going through boxes prior to this interaction stepped in and demanded to see Rhuby’s “ID or registration,” to which my friend said “there is no such thing as service dog registration.” the woman argued and claimed to have previously flown with a service dog before so she knows there needs to be paperwork. my friend asked if she was referring to the DoT papers, which he had just used to fly in from AZ. she said yes, and my friend replied by stating that it is also illegal for businesses to require a disabled person to show documentation for their aids, including a service animal, and that he doesn’t carry the paperwork with him since he’s not at the airport. the woman then approached us to inspect the dog closer, whose vest is covered in “working service dog” patches. my friend and i both froze from being in shock over the audacity of these people and how uncomfortable they were making us. she THEN asked what the dog is for (ANOTHER ADA VIOLATION!) and eventually waved us by with an “ok, fine” after my friend answered. we got maybe 10 feet past the door and decided to leave. it was like every person in the store was staring at us after the workers made such a huge spectacle of a disability aid. not to mention how we wouldn’t want our money going to such awful people. we just wanted to share this experience so that other people in the area know what kind of business is ran over at Ultimate Treasures in Downers Grove, IL and can make their own choices accordingly. we decided to go to Resale Connection instead (also in Downers Grove) and i’m glad we did, because not only were they welcoming and accommodating, but we found some incredible stuff that we brought home! so if you’re looking for an actually well ran and disability friendly consignment shop, please check out Resale...
Read moreLarge store with lots of options. Even though it is unorganized and unpriced, it was a good store to explore until our experience was totally turned around by the extremely rude behavior at the billing counter by the man who also seems to be at the helm of the store.
This review is just to highlight that a counteroffer does not make it ok for any store person to launch into unprofessional, rude, and insulting behavior. It is a store with no marked prices and is advertised that they make a deal, so the customer is well within their rights to quote a price they find reasonable. And it is absolutely OK for a store person to refuse a counteroffer.
But any person entering a business expects and should be given professionalism and respect at the very least. We can all differ on pricing, and that is fine. What is not fine is, mocking a customer, slamming one's hand on the counter and shouting repeatedly do you want this or not and raising their voice and insulting and disrespecting the customer almost to the point of driving them out of the store. This is never OK and leaves a very negative impression of an otherwise good afternoon politely trying to make a purchase. That is what happened to us today as a family when we visited Ultimate Treasures. Of course, we didn't make the purchase, and due to this behavior, we will not be returning.
Hope he can reflect on this and work towards not turning away more customers by simply wrong behavior. This is for the person at the billing counter who also seems to be the store manager because he finalizes all prices, and this criticism is not directed to all of the staff. We don't want to paint everyone with the same brush and highlighting for future customers. Be aware and call out if you are not treated with professionalism.
Based on other reviews and the responses that we have seen from Ultimate Treasures online (sadly we saw the reviews only after experiencing unprofessionalism ourselves), nothing is being done to correct this behavior as some of the responses we read afterwards are plain vulgar or mocking and insulting the customers and downplaying their bad experiences. Plus, what we saw today personally, when we saw him shout at us, demean and berate us in the middle of a store. Hence, our deduction that this might not have been taken seriously. And, our post might also be met with the same petulant/inappropriate behavior.
But it is important to highlight for future customers, plus if anybody is really listening or for whoever is managing this and cares for good business practices. Hopefully, reading this will spur you to take appropriate corrective action and provide some help...
