Classic Treasures Furniture Consignment — Attraction in Durham

I have visited Classic Treasures twice - once in March and again this week. It is my absolute favorite consignment shop - great variety - booths with well-chosen items - many unique - and just the right involvement by Blake, the owner. He is readily available, - has a friendly demeanor but is at the same time professional and knowledgeable, straight-forward, no games - not pushy, snooty or overly familiar - treats lovely ladies and old geezers such as myself just the same - with respect. For items too large to carry from the store, he will deliver quite reasonably and reliably; the delivery men were helpful - went above and beyond in service. They arrived at the time promised - realized a small item was missing from a heavily loaded truck - checked with me about that and returned with it later in the day.

What really pushed me to finally write this review (I'm a terrible procrastinator) is that AFTER I purchased some items (old desk, end tables, bookcase, etc.), they were clearly cleaned and touched up before delivery. Blake had already made the sale, and I was gone. How classy is that? I can see why his employees seem to feel good about...

I purchased a lovely curio cabinet in excellent condition at half price. I cannot say if the price was fair or not (to the consignor); I only know that it was worth, to me, what I paid for it. The owner was friendly and professional, and was willing to hold it for me a bit longer than usual while I made up my mind and returned. The delivery was prompt and professional. They arrived at one o'clock on the dot, and were very careful of my own furniture and the cabinet as they brought it in. One of the men took time to make certain that the cabinet was level on my somewhat sloping floor, pointed out a feature I had not even noticed and gave me some tips on buying and replacing the bulbs. The delivery charge was, I think, a bit pricey but worth it, as I would not have trusted anyone to bring it on the back of a pickup! I have had it a little over a week, and I am still pleased by the cabinet and the whole experience from purchase...

At first was impressed with professionalism of salesperson on telephone, by the name of Kristy (sp?), who told me in writing and on the phone that she would give me so much for an antique table set with chairs and buffet. She said nothing about the percentage for consignment (50%) either in writing or on the telephone or that after so many days on the floor, the percentage would decrease to 25%. This was only explained to me when the movers came to pick up the furniture. I did not agree to the terms and the next day called Kristy and told her that she had not been clear about the consignment percentage (50%) and the further decrease (25%) after so many days on the floor.
