Good new school taco joint that allows you to choose from a multitude of meats and salsas, but sometimes it's too greasy and heavy.
The space is bigger than you would expect from a counter-serve taco joint. Enough large and small tables for significant amounts of seating. However, you will still likely wait in line to order because in my experience they have only been running one register to take orders. Also the line moves slowly because people have so many choices and the cashiers are not really hustling too much. That said, they're always nice folks and treat you politely. The parking situation is not ideal, either. Sometimes there is no option but to park across the street in a lot with a bunch of signs specifically instructing you NOT to park there and then walk across the street.
While you wait, you'll get your drink and check out the really large salsa bar. They usually have somewhere around 6 salsas plus other items like spicy slaw, pickled veggies, and peppers. It's fun to try the different options.
Your initial ordering options include some burritos and plates, but I always stick with tacos. Flour or corn. I think the corn is superior because the flour taste less authentic and kind of hold the grease more. You can choose from stnadard meats like pork, beef, chicken, etc. or pay more for the "dirty meats" with interesting stuff like chicken livers, oysters, tongue, and more. Again, interesting stuff you do not get to try at other places.
The tacos are good and when you get a plate the rice and beans are fine - nothing special but meet expectations. The problem is that the tacos do not really "wow" despite the crazy options. Worse, I often feel tired and slightly ill afterwards because many of the meats are overly oily/greasy. These are not little street tacos, they're big heavy tacos. That could be good or bad depending on how you feel. At least I know that they prepare this stuff fresh. Sometimes you can see them grilling it out back behind the restaurant when you pull up.
I should also mention that you can get alcoholic drinks here. The habanero spicy margarita I've had was fine but not that strong. I expected both more alcohol and more heat. Probably stick with the beer - it's cheaper.
Anyways - this is a good spot to try some new things. You will only dorp about $10-15 too which is good. It's neither an upscale Mexican place nor is it a truly traditional old-school Mexican place. Similarly, it's good but it's...
Read moreThis is hands down my favorite restaurant. My husband and our two small children have been eating here at least once a week for the past two years. The food is absolutely delicious, fresh salsa, queso, and guacamole; phenomenal tacos with a variety of tasty meats; and the nuvo bowl is tremendous if you want a salad. The margaritas are top notch, strong and fresh ingredients (doesn't taste like super sugary bottled mix). In my weekly visits, I have never had a subpar meal.
But what keeps us coming back is the staff. They are genuinely the kindest people. They are always happy to see us and see our children. They bring out our chips, queso, guac, and margaritas before we order. Our children know everyone's names. My three year old specifically goes to see who she refers to as "hola Maya" who could not be kinder to my children. They go above and beyond to ensure every visit is outstanding and that is why my small children request Nuvo Taco for dinner every single weekend!
Additionally, I have a gluten allergy and appreciate the labeled allergy friendly menu and have never had an issue.
We have also used the catering a number of times and I couldn't recommend that more. Always on time, fresh, and excellent portions. They make sure you have all the serving utensils, napkins, etc you need.
While I wholeheartedly recommend Nuvo Taco I almost hesitate to write this stellar review because I don't want to share the secret and potentially have to wait when I make my...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit your establishment for the first time, and I wanted to share some feedback from my experience. While I appreciate the effort put into the preparation of the meals, I must express my disappointment with the outcome. Despite discussing my preferences with one of your staff members regarding the tacos, the actual presentation did not align with what was communicated. The individual tacos with separate meats were not what I had anticipated, and the portion sizes left much to be desired.Furthermore, the taste of the vegetables lacked seasoning, and the margaritas tasted overly sour, resembling more of a lemon-lime flavor than the expected taste. Additionally, the quantity of avocado provided with the chips was inadequate, and I did not receive the requested pico de gallo on the side.As someone who appreciates the flavors of authentic Mexican cuisine, I had hoped for a more satisfying experience, especially considering the investment of $30. I believe that regardless of whether the meal is dine-in or takeout, consistency in quality and taste should be maintained.I offer this feedback with the intention of providing constructive criticism and hope that it can be used to improve the overall dining/take out experience for future customers. While my first visit may have left much to be desired, I am open to the possibility of giving your establishment another chance in the future. Thank you for taking the time to consider my...
