This place was a little gem!
My son is 3.5 with ASD and this place while small, was perfect for him! It was not overwhelming with kids people and things.
We came on Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, around 230pm and they close at 4. There were only 2 other families in the museum.
Main floor had a section for train (3 large tables) which my son instantly was attracted to and played with most of the time. There was a fire truck, a pirate ship, and space shuttle, all with either interactive activities or costumes that go with the theme. The first floor also had a golf ball run similar to a marble run but it was very short. Don't forget to go in the cubby under the stairs next to the pirate ship, it's pretty cool! Didn't see it until right before we left! Bottom floor had bathrooms and a large hall with tables and seating I assume for crafting, as well as other crafting areas, a Lego and dino area. I didn't get to check it out we only used the restroom. It was not super clean but it did have a large counter to change you child with a generous soft vinal pad to lay your child on while changing. I hate wall changers and I was so happy to see my son could be changed in comfort and not hanging on for dear life on a hard surface that is skeptical! Just give it a wipe down as we all know!
2nd floor had restrooms too, though I didn't check it out. There are 4 themed rooms. One had interactive game play with a game projected onto the floor the kids can stomp on the images. Another room was a camp room. I loved it but my son wasn't interested - a tent with a lantern, a boat, a fishing area, bird sounds, campfire. 3rd room seemed sensory based. Didn't spend much time in there either. Lastly the occupation themed room - kitchen, vet, doctor, mailbox, construction.... my son was attracted to the kitchen set. There are little bags for items if your child puts it in their mouth.
Only downside is that the place was very hot. No AC on and one thermostat read 79° and it was a hot day putside. Kids running around get hot easily so the AC being on would be ideal.
Also, they close at 4 and they closed the downstairs room at 3pm ish and the upstairs room at 330pm. The employees, all young girls either high school or young college students. They seemed in a rush to close up and leave by 330. Leaving me to feel unwanted and needing to leave earlier than I wanted. My son has sensory issues and when we left had a total melt down. I parked out front by the wild life sign and within 90 seconds the employees were locked up and outside. They were on the phone or not even really paying attention much. I asked a question 2x before she even realized I was next to the counter asking her. She was looking down at something.
I would come back if I was in the area. It was a nice place to visit and I wish more towns had...
Read moreFacility was clean, well kept and staff was very nice entering and downstairs in the dino room. However, the one big thing that will keep me from coming back is: my 1 year old daughter and I were on the top floor. She was playing with one of the fish in the camping room. Shes 1 mind you, and loves fish. She held onto the fish and carried it into the cooking playroom. Same floor, right next to the camping room. A staff member was erotically cleaning the room and organizing as toddlers and young children were playing. And I totally understand their reasoning but it is unrealistic as to its a CHILDRENS museum. Isn’t the purpose to help them discover and be children? I was asked to take the fish away from my 1 year old so they could return it 3 steps over to the camping room. She’s 1. Im not going to take off with your fish… she had 1 out of the 12 that were in there. It rubbed me the wrong way. Another thing that got to me was during this “organzing frenzie”, this staff and another member were searching for a fake log, and it was in the FIREEE in the camping room… soo why wouldn’t a discoverable child put it there?? Also as she was cleaning, there was a building built by a child and she said “I’m going to leave that one, I like it..” ok, so we’re picking and choosing by discretion? Idk this particular staff rubbed me the wrong way. The place itself was fun. My daughter loved it. She did not love me taking the fish away from her.. but I will not be returning. There are many other places I can bring her and not feel like I have to “sensor” myself or my daughter. I also did appreciate the discount they give for DTA members. It’s hard being a single mom in poverty and trying to claw my way out of it. So I do have to give credit to places that will help me further my child's education and mind and playfulness. All in all, it’s not a bad place to check out. I just had a bad experience with one staff member, but it was enough for me to not want to return. Why have a CHILDRENS museum and not let them be children? This staff member was complaining about finding toys in different rooms the entire time she was in my presence… sorry, I’m not about That attitude. Anyways, thats my 2 cents. I’ll go somewhere else, that encourages my child...
Read moreDefinitely 5 stars for me!!! I’m a mom of three kids ages 10, 7, and 5 and we love to visit various children’s museums, aquariums, kids gyms, you name it. In New England it can be hard to keep the kids busy as the weather gets cooler although we love going to all kinds of fall activities we love finding new indoor places. Today was the first time so I don’t know if it’s like this all the time but there was definitely plenty of parking. The gps took me to one side but I could also see parking on the other side. Today was normally a school day so I only had my youngest with me and he uses a walker to help him walk and while they didn’t have access to the 2nd floor for people with disabilities they were clear about that on their website and you could go up a small ramp to the main floor and then thankfully the stairs to the 2nd floor were small and had a perfect height railing so my son was able to do the stairs easily side stepping.
He did love all the railroad tracks, the fire truck (especially the hose), the train you could drive (pretend), and the rocket ship with lots of buttons, etc. he really loved upstairs!!! You can tell a lot of thought and time went into each different room. One room has a construction corner with foam bricks and wood, real working kids tape measures, and hard hats of course. A veterinarians office, doctors office, light and puzzle activities, beading on strings, magnetic people and magnetic puzzles. Another room had a perfect size tent with a fake pond with magnetic fish & fishing poles, a fake fire with sticks and snores to cook…. I’m sure there were other activities but we had a great time, my son loved it and the part that truly makes it or breaks it for me with who I do give an honest 5 star review was the customer service, how the employees treat my children and myself and it was the manager there today she was genuinely so nice she appreciated that we went there to visit and if people have EBT you can get in for a discount.
Great day with my man. These are the days I live for. Thank you Easton...
