Conveniently located and affordable hotel room with full complementary breakfast and near Target, Trader Joe's, ACME plus restaurants and gyms as well as beauty salons like Massage Envy and Nail Emporium and across the street from Sojo Spa.
Pros:
This hotel is very conveniently located in Edgewater, NJ, in walking distance from Trader Joe's and ACME, restaurants serving International and American cuisine, Target, Burlington Coat Factory and Soho Spa as well as Nail Emporium and Massage Envy, Orange Theory gym and a boxing studio.
The hotel is near the Hudson River.
The staff at this hotel is friendly and helpful especially Luigi, Alyssa, Jhon and Denise at the front desk and Cece, one of the cleaning ladies.
The complimentary breakfast includes: breakfast sausages, omelettes, waffles and syrup, yogurt, burritos, oatmeal, cold cereal with milk, coffee and tea as well as pastries like cherry danish and blueberry mini-muffins. That is pretty generous if you ask me!
The hotel is clean and smells like baby powder in the reception. Our hotel room was clean and equipped with a tea/coffee machine, microwave and small fridge. The cleaning ladies cleaned the room and changed the bedding and towels daily without having the ridiculous card that other hotels have about asking you to save on hot water and laundry detergent by reusing your sheets and towels.
There is a tiny store area near the front desk reception where they sell useful items like umbrellas in case of a sudden storm, canned soup, bottled juice etc.
Cons:
For the entire duration of our stay, the bathroom sink kept getting clogged since the drain stopper was broken before our arrival and could not open with the handle behind the faucet.
Sometimes, we only received one roll of toilet paper although there were two of us, my teenage son and me, in the hotel room. I constantly had to go to the front desk to ask for more rolls of toilet paper.
For the entire hotel stay, our electric card key to the hotel room kept getting deactivated and I had to return to the front desk reception to ask them to reactivate the electric card key.
Sometimes, other guests were very noisy with kids running and screaming in the hallways or some guests standing outside the window of our hotel room talking very loudly from 10:00 at night until 4:00 in the morning.
The signs for getting to Comfort Inn are very confusing. There is one big sign located at the entrance to the small strip mall where Trader Joe's is situated so you might mistakenly think that Comfort Inn is in the same complex as at the small strip mall. There is another smaller sign that says "Make the next Right" so you have to look at that one to figure out how to drive from the strip mall to Comfort Inn. They should put the big sign near the road and put an arrow pointing to the same street where Comfort Inn is located.
The hotel doesn't offer guest on-site laundry service to clean their dirty clothes during their stay. So you have to walk to a laundromat or a dry cleaner to ask for their services.
The wifi is very weak and always stalling or disconnecting.
The Cable TV programs are very limited. There is no option for pay per...
Read moreOur first complaint is out of the hotel staff's control, but I am seeing that Comfort Inn's site STILL did not fix it - I booked a one person whirlpool tub room because the pictures showed a completely different room. We had stayed last year and had the standard king room which was bigger and had a nicer layout than the room we got - both in room size and bathroom size. I did not get the room I was expecting, and the ONLY reason I paid more for the room was because I thought I was getting a room with a whirlpool tub in the middle of the room. We drove 4 hours for this trip and it was for our anniversary, so this really got things off to a negative start. We were offered a room switch to either a regular king or an upgrade if one was free. I asked about it the first morning and was told there were no cancellations and then asked if someone could please just let us know if that was possible during the stay so I didn't need to keep stressing myself out over asking and was told that would happen. However, Monday AM when we checked out and I was out in the morning, it seemed like a lot of people were checking in before 9-10 AM, so I know some rooms were available and I doubt NONE of those rooms were not either a downgrade to a standard king or an upgrade to the room I thought I was paying for, which would mean we should have at least been able to switch on our last night.
My second problem is the staff's fault - after this stupid ordeal with not getting the room we wanted, we come home from a long day the first night, and the tub stopper does not work. Staff was not able to fix it until the morning. So not only did we not get the room we thought we were getting, but we couldn't even use the tub we paid extra for for one night. We were not offered any sort of refund amount or anything for not being able to use everything in our room for the first night.
The hotel is very conveniently located for us, but we will not be coming back. We will be picking a different hotel for our yearly NYC trips. You could have kept our business if something was done for the dysfunctional tub drain since I know the pictures on the website aren't in...
Read moreThis hotel is a very poor choice if you have an auto immune illnes or any sensitivity to strong scents or chemical. They have potpourri everywhere and the cleaning staff sprays a very strong chemical on the carpets after every clean. I came to New Jersey for kidney stone removal surgery at Mount Sinai and was so disappointed about the chemical smells everywhere because I had hoped to stay in a healthy environment before and after surgery. They deliberately spray a strong scent on your carpet every time they clean and say it's because it smells nice. We were staying for almost a week, but could not clean the room as a result because housekeeping didn't seem to understand that strong scents are not healthy for anyone, let alone for someone with an auto immune illness. When I mentioned this to the front desk staff, they seemed barely interested. The front desk staff seems very poorly trained. They don't know anything about the surrounding area. Prior to arriving at the hotel, I asked for an early check in and was told it was no problem. When I arrived, the front desk told me this was not possible and without an apology told me to sit down and wait for a room to be available. Since the issue seemed to be cleaning, I asked the front desk if it might be possible to ask housekeeping to prioritize my room since I had been told I could check in at 11 am. She said yes. At 13:00 I approached her again to get an update. She said not to ask again. She would let me know. I wound up waiting until 15:00 which is the official check in time and she said she had not told me my room was ready because I had been eating and she didn't want to disturb me. I had only had a short snack and expected her to tell me even if I was eating. This is just one of many poor customer service examples. I don't think they have been trained at all. My husband is currently lying down with a severe headache from the chemical smell and he does not have any type of auto immune illness. The location is very nice with the walk by the water and shops close by, but the horrible scent and poor customer service...
