Oasis Water Park — Attraction in El Paso

I visited The Beast today for the first time. I also just signed up for the monthly pass with the city’s aquatic centers. Even though I live nearly equal distance between Memorial Park and Hawkins pools, I decided to try The Beast out today largely due to the fact that along with the Westside Natatorium, the pool here is reservation first (as the website states, “Walk-ins are welcome if space is available.”). I was turned away at Memorial Park yesterday afternoon due to the pool being at capacity, and I didn’t want to waste my time. I’m very pleased that I chose to try out The Beast.

First, let me just say that the entire complex is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a very modern facility and quite large as well. Attached to the facility is one of the city’s waterparks, The Oasis, so I can see how parking can very much be an issue because the car park for this complex is not large enough for what the capacity of the complex is. In any case, I was able to make my visit midweek and at 9am. There was enough room in the car park, but I’m thinking it was also due to the water park not being open.

The entire facility is housed in the one large building, and checking into the pool was no problem. Thankfully, with this being a newer building, there are actual locker room facilities here. I was pleased to have been able to lock up my personal belongings instead of being forced to keep them out in the open on the small bleachers like at the older pools in town. There are individual showers here as well, which is a welcome touch, again as opposed to the older facilities that either don’t have any or have a communal shower room. As far as the pools themselves, they were really clean and warm. The competitive pool goes from 4 feet, then drops 3 times to 13 feet. Again, since I was there on a slower time, I had no issues with any crowding. The smaller 25-yard leisure pool was full of what seemed to be a class for the elderly, but I would have no problems using that to do my lap swimming as it is 4 feet deep the entire length of the pool, and especially during any busy time I decide to get my...

I have been coming to El Paso for years. I just found out about the water parks a few weeks ago. It's fun, but small. The people who work there really need to get their act together through. It literally took about 40 minutes between us showing up and being able to tough the water. At first there was a family of 6 who wanted to get season passes in front of us. I guess the lady working the counter never did the passes before because there was another person helping her. Thats OK, because we all have to learn. But the issue was there the other 4 people in the office did not bother to open a second window even though there was a line. That took at least 15 minutes. When it was out turn, I asked the lady if there were lockers. "Yes"... great. But when we got to the lockers, the payment system did not work. I asked one of the nearby lifeguard, and he said that they have never really worked since they opened. Why were we not told that. Back out to the car to drop our stuff off. We got into the park a second time. My son wanted to ride the wave board. When we got there, they asked where out wrist band was. Um, what wrist band? Back up to the front again to sign a waiver. Again, why were not told this when we went in. We were finally able to touch the water. BUT.... then the lifeguards started to cycle through the stations. My son rode the wave board and the surfboard several times. When the third lifeguard came through, he refused to let my son wide the surfboard unless he could "prove himself" by kneeling on the wave board for 30 seconds. WTH. Since he has never did that before he failed the "30 second" rule. I finally had to tell the lifeguard to let my son ride the surfboard since he did it already several times. But he only let him ride once because the other 2 times were taken up by the lifeguard's strange kneel waveboard rides. There was plenty of security and a lot of lifeguards which is great and safe since there were several...

(November 2023) Unless you go here for individual workouts or small group fun, check the other gyms. This place is not worth it.

Volleyball open gyms have become a complete joke in the worst of ways. There are select "adults" who behave like absolutely selfish privileged children, acting as though they own the court and cheat others out of playing time. Worst part is that the staff is beyond incompetent and inconsistent, and have repeatedly lied about previous conversations while avoiding taking charge at every possible moment, even openly allowing said problem adults to abuse the lack of facility authority (including ignoring direct and indirect threats of violence from same said problem adults to other players and allowing a known male to continue messing around in the women's restrooms after he was exposed by his own social media, which he suddenly began claiming long afterward that "she" identified as a woman just so he wouldn't get into trouble and could continue his bad behavior).

I stopped going well over a month ago, and I will never go back.

Edit: (June 2024) I have been told that the situation has slightly progressed and the staff has made some effort to settle disputes, however, core problems still persist. If you want a positive experience in the volleyball community, it is not...
