I recently went to the Busse Forest Elk Pasture Natural Preserve in Elk Grove, IL, and it was awesome! Here's why: The Elk Pasture is part of the big Busse Woods Forest Preserve. It's really pretty with lots of trees and green grass. It's a great place to relax and enjoy nature. The best part is seeing the elk! They roam around the pasture, and you can watch them from a safe distance. It's super cool to see these big animals up close. There are signs at entrance that teach you about elk and their home. It's interesting to learn about how they live and why they're important. You can walk or ride your bike on the trails. It's fun to explore and see animals while getting some exercise. It's a nice place to go with your family. Kids will like seeing the elk, and there are easy trails for everyone to walk on. They have bathrooms, places to have a picnic, and places to sit and relax. Everything you need for a fun day outside! The Busse Forest Elk Pasture Natural Preserve is a really cool place to visit. You can enjoy nature, see elk, and have fun with your family. If you like being outside, you should definitely...
Read moreBeautiful long (I think about 8 miles) trail for walking, jogging, biking 🚴🏼♂️ or rollerblading. Tree paths, grassy path, bridges, water. A few are near to the city and homes— so not very removed from city in some parts- other parts are immersive. Very lush. Several bathroom stops (average cleanliness - smelly). Several picnic benches, great for large groups. The Elk reserve is a cool little stop, you really need to look to find them at times. We saw 4 on our recent hike. Track your journey and pay attention to markers to avoid getting lost. Close to the mall, theatre and restaurants for dinner or other...
Read moreGreat place for a walk or bike ride with kids. Fly a kite on a pleasant day. Even have a picnic in the summer. Careful on weekends as it tends to get packed. Visited in snowy days a few times and trail isn't cleared, not great for strollers and such. Trash on trail has also gone up since covid. Lots of discarded masks. Be attentive of other bike riders as some are rude and do not call out. Elk may be locked up but these are woods you'll run into the occasional squirrels, snakes, frogs, etc. They'll stay clear of your way just be careful not to run them over when riding full...
