Deciding between 3 and 4 was very difficult. I'll give you the details and you decide if this hotel is right for you.
We had an extended stay at this property, so I have a solid understanding of how the building works. The goal of our stay was a decent hotel at a low cost. That is why I rated this hotel a 4 because it did that fairly well.
Good: -The lobby - It looks amazing and is very clean. The rest of the hotel does not live up to the lobby. -The Bed - They have the usual Sheraton bed and bedding, so you will get what you expect if you are familiar with Sheratons. -Dog Friendly - We found the dog fee to be inline with what we would pay at any other hotel. The hotel has a huge amount of property, so your dog can run, play ball, or sniff around the property. -Fitness - They have nice Lifetime fitness treadmills and other equipment that is in good condition. However, only one of the treadmills worked. This wasn't an issue because no one else seemed to use the treadmills, but they should have both working. -The rooms were clean. However, we checked in to our room and had to be moved immediately because the TVs didn't work. Expect the room to be a bit worn. If everything in your room is in good condition then you better play the lottery.
Not so good: -Hotel internet is in and out a bit more than I like. If you are here for business or need super reliable internet, then this might not be the hotel for you. There was a day during our stay that it was our for a couple of hours. Any of the other times, it was a brief drop in connection. -The building condition - The hallways have wallpaper that is pealing due to water damage. The rooms will have a few minor issues, like a ripped curtain or old furniture. The rooms are clean, but just not what you'd expect from a Sheraton. -During our stay only 1 elevator was working for part of our stay. That seemed to be fixed by the end of our stay. It did add time to getting to your room since Covid precautions were being followed.
"Due to COVID" they suspended housekeeping, the club room, and their restaurant. For some reason the bar had no restrictions. Normally hotels will offer something else when they cannot provide one of their usual member benefits...drink voucher, points for no room service needed. This hotel does not offer any benefit to replace benefits that are suspended "due to COVID." The housekeeping staff will drop off additional towels, ect as requested if you make the request by 1 pm the day before.
Starbucks - Do not count on getting Starbucks drinks here. There is a language barrier between the staff and guests. It also seems as though the "barista" is taking an educated guess at making you a drink.
If you do not have a car, you'll hate it here. There is nothing within walking distance, so you'll need to live by delivery.
Lastly, keep in mind the price is very low per night and while that is great for your budget it also can attract loud crowds that rent hotel rooms for weekend parties. During both weekends we stayed this hotel was fully booked. One weekend was filled with hallways of weed and the other was filled with loud slamming doors from groups that rented multiple rooms in our hall that kept moving from room to room frequently for hours. The weekdays are quite and peaceful, but the weekend will have some kind...
Read moreAs of October 2016, the common areas of the hotel are being renovated. According to the front desk, after they are finished the rooms will be renovated, although I found the room to be in good shape. I would not stay here if the rate is over one hundred dollars, as the inconvenience is significant, The hotel is in a business park with nothing much nearby, but there are a variety of restaurants including Lou Malnati's pizza not too far away.
One of the two elevators was out of service due to the renovation, making our fifth floor room almost inaccessible except by stairs. Several groups were at the hotel that night, causing long (and angry) queues at the elevator.
The HVAC was also malfunctioning, with our room about five degrees above bearable temperatures for the duration of our stay. This was the case for other guests we met in our long waits for the elevator...
The fire alarm went off about 8PM as we were watching a movie--it was a false alarm (no one came over the speaker to tell us that)--but when the alarm sounded the TVs and wifi were shut down and did not come back until morning. I'm sure the front desk was overwhelmed with angry guests on that issue too, so I didn't bother contacting them about the tv, wifi, or HVAC.
All of the rooms are suites, with a nice size living area separated from the bedroom by french doors, so not a lot of privacy. The bathroom is accessible from both spaces. Our suite was nicely finished although the fold-out couch had seen better days.
Platinum received a typical suite and club access. The club lounge is very nice but too small for this size hotel. There is a computer equipped with printer and two TVs. Breakfast was good (we missed evening aps), with bacon, sausage, eggs, and potatoes all hot and reasonably well prepared.
We used points for the stay so I can't complain about the cost. I would stay again if I was on my own, but a family would be inconvenienced more. The rates are usually too good to pass up, and my comments above are why...if you're willing to roll with...
Read moreBeds were old, sunk in, could feel springs, uncomfortable. Had feather pillows, woke with crick in neck. The blanket was nasty looking, like old attic run down blanket. Not the top comforter, the blanket underneath.
Was a two room suit, but there was not any air flow in bedroom. The room was continually hot no matter how much I turned it down, I finally turned it off and opened window in the middle of Nov. in Chicago...there's one for the books!
The staff was friendly, but not forth coming with information, like where I could find everything like ice, gym, business center. They did point out restaurant and bar. They did not give recommendations for places to eat or places that delivered, I had to ask for them. There is not anything around this hotel, they could offer complimentary food or drink. They do offer chips, but they could have fruit or cookies or something out so guest that come in starving don't have to wait for food. They did have a transportation service that was primarily complimentary to and from airport, but most hotels have this. I think most of their staff works on tips, and do not make very much money, especially in the transportation part.
There were scuff marks in hallway, on my ceiling in room...thought it was a spider...LOL The tile was cracked down the middle in shower, the tub was scuffed and discolored, made me question the cleanliness of the room. Everything on the surface looked high end and nice and shiny, but it's the little things that make you go hmmmmm. For instance the elevator was nice and clean until you see the doors close and the inside of doors where nasty. They only had one elevator working.
Overall, I do think this is a nice hotel and they are trying to maintain the higher end appeal, but rapidly loosing ground with that. I booked this stay through booking, so the price was great for the spacious room, just could do a better job of upkeep. Whether you pay less or more, the name Sheraton should have a quality behind it and this location is loosing...
