I grew up going to North East Park but we I got older, it seemed like it was always back and forth where there would be a little renovating it then it would start getting real rough looking for a bit. But I was just down there today. I decided to take my dog for a walk, and stopped by. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised, really surprised. I haven't been there in a few years and couldn't believe the transformation. It looks great and they changed the landscape up a little back by the point from what I remember it looking like I think, but it looks fantastic! I saw more people there today than I have the last 8 times that I've been there, probably. It was great! I really loved seeing that, like 3 or 4 different birthdays going on, pavilions filled, kids playing, people kayaking and paddle boarding, which I've never seen on the museum side of the North East River, lol!! I grew up having birthdays there, and my first time fishing with my pop-pop, with a bamboo pole that was just string, the hook and bobber, and bamboo. No reel, no casting, just drop off the side by the museum. We used to catch really nice sunfish there, then over the years they became less and less. Alot of people were fishing though and they just had the fishing tourney there I believe, unless that was an old sign. My dog loved running around the track and made it halfway down the stone road before he collapsed under a bush by the water, lol. It was a little warm out and he's 100 miles an hour back and forth sniffing. But he lived it, I loved that he loved it cause it means I'm doing right, and I really just enjoyed the nostalgia, I guess, like coming home after being on a trip or college or the military and seeing how it's all changed, for the better of course, but, it's still exactly how you remember in your mind from when you were a kid and it was the clean park, and the water festivals, and watching the fireworks, and the birthdays. Well done, Town of North...
Read morePros: Decent little park for the area. Jungle Gyms, Slides, Swings are all kept in good condition and seem to be updated regularly. There are a few fishing spots as well. There is a short walking path and a longer one that goes by the water. People often have parties/gatherings under the pavilions and there are plenty of things for kids to do.
Cons: it's unfortunate that such a nice little spot with an overall good atmosphere has some pretty alarming issues. I've seen a homeless guy doing his laundry and bathing in the river water, right by the main area, for everyone to see. We had to call the cops on another occasion because a lady who was clearly driving while intoxicated pulled into the parking lot, engaged with us in conversation, then soiled herself (urinated). The cops had to put her in cuffs in front of all the kids. My last issue with this park is the amount of goose/duck droppings that litter the walking paths. After one lap around the walk path, the wheels of the wagon we pull my son around in (he's only 1 yrs old), were absolutely covered in...
Read moreThis park has amazing views of the North East river. I walk my dogs there every day. I've met some wonderful people and more importantly some fantastic dogs 🥰 The restrooms are always clean. Great place to fish. And the picnic areas are decent . Would love it if they had a dog park/fenced area! The downside...The trash on the ground has gotten pretty bad over the past few years. Also, since they have taken out all of the trees and shrubs along the rivers edge the flooding and debris has gotten much worse . In addition, there are too many pot smokers 🤮STINKS!! I heard they will be putting up signs prohibiting the use of marijuana at the park, since it's illegal to smoke it in public places , so that...
