Who needs a stairmaster when you can take the 143 steps down to the sand, a super chill spot to hang out, you can stroll miles in either direction on the sand. Surfing, boogie boarding is great there, but check the tide tables before you head out... It's a residential area with mansions on the ocean side and Neptune Avenue is also a great place to walk dogs, but no dogs are allowed on the beach there. Great place to watch sunsets with the locals. I actually should have given it one star so we can keep it all to ourselves.... raised a kid right across the street from Stone Steps and have zero regrets. There's some vacation rentals nearby, but since it's off the 101 there's really not much tourist traffic there. There's quite a few budget places on the 101 if all you want to do is surf and have a place to crash. Leucadia has undergone some gentrification, but there is still the vibe and funk feel, a few remnants of the 70s. The Eagles lives and recorded there in the 1970s about a block to the South of the stairway, there's a little plaque that tells the story, and they reportedly wrote Hotel...

Nearby parking consists of residential streets so you might need to park a few blocks away during peak hours/season.
There's a lifeguard tower near the stairs so you can trust during work hours they are keeping an eye on you. The lifeguards are also cautious of the cliff erosion and will ask people to move away from the cliff when needed.
