During my recent visit to Swami's Beach in Encinitas, I was captivated by its unique blend of natural beauty and vibrant surf culture. Descending the staircase from the bluff-top park, I was greeted by panoramic ocean views and the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shore.
The beach is renowned for its consistent right point break, making it a haven for surfers. I spent hours watching them skillfully navigate the waves, their silhouettes framed against the horizon. Even as a non-surfer, the energy and passion were palpable and infectious.
Beyond the surf, Swami's offers a serene environment for relaxation. The adjacent Self-Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens provide a peaceful retreat, with lush greenery and koi ponds overlooking the ocean. It's a perfect spot to reflect and soak in the tranquil ambiance.
The community atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy the beach, share stories, and bask in the California sun. Whether you're there to surf, meditate, or simply unwind, Swami's Beach offers an experience that resonates long after...

Sunset from the bottom side of the parking lot is great and the lot has good facilities like restrooms, showers & picnic benches.
This beach is easily accessible by stairs. Turning left at the bottom will take you to an area of the beach that curves around that’s relatively flat for sunbathing and wading.
Turing right takes you past a bluff and at low tide some exposed angled flats covered with sea weed. There is a raised area of the bluffs and cliffs which is excellent for panoramic pictures and dolphin spotting! (About 30 meters from the bottom of the stairs).
Be careful though because of the shorter beach section on this side you may get caught out by the tide and a little stuck walking back.
Would suggest stronger covered shoes as the medium sided rocks on the beach can be a little challenging to walk over in the fact that your footing will slip at every step.
A perfect sport for watching surfers, dolphins and sunset. Highly...

Then you have to lug your board down hundreds, maybe thousands of steps just to be on level ground... If you made down safely you are then FORCED to brave the ferocious shore break or, do as many do, and find a place to hide for half an hour and then climb back up the stairs and tell people you have a great day. Ok... here's the truth as I see it... It's a beautiful view especially on a clear day. If you're in the area there are plenty of things to see. Cardiff Beach is south of Swami's an Moonlight Beach is north about a mile. There are plenty of camping spots if that's what you like... AND you are close to 3, 4, and 5 star hotels and motels... plan ahead and make sure to give yourself time to see everything... people are laid back around the coast so, eat, drink and be merry.... OK, you don't have to BE merry, just be yourself... if you see me...
