The first time I went about a month ago, I had the brakes on my S-Works Stumpjumper bled. Unfortunately, the work was done so poorly that the brakes were unsafe to ride. In the end, it was more cost-efficient for me to replace the brakes entirely myself.
The second visit was a very different experience. Austin did an excellent Level 2 tune-up on my S-Works Tarmac SL4. He was thorough, professional, and even identified a crank recall that I hadnât been aware of, which led to a safe and warranted replacement. This was the level of service I had hoped for from the start.
This week, I brought in my S-Works Tarmac SL6 for a tune-up. I specifically asked for Austin to do the work and mentioned that a firmware update was needed because the rear derailleur was skipping a gear. I was assured both requests could be handled. However, when I picked up the bike, Austin had not worked on it, the firmware hadnât been updated, the gear was still skipping, the chain had not been cleaned, and the brakes were untouched. It left me wondering what was actually included in the tune-up service. I did point out the firmware/gear issue before leaving, and they did take care of it.
Overall, Iâve experienced both ends of the spectrum hereâfrom unsafe work to excellent, attentive service. Unfortunately, the inconsistency makes it difficult to trust...
Read moreThis store is hands-down one of the best stores I've ever been to in general, not just bikes. They have knowledgeable staff who are actually interested in the products that they sell (and service, they also do service work here) and the cycling hobby as well. Okay, that may be relatively common to other local bike shops, but it goes so much farther than that.
I've brought my bikes in here multiple times for service work and everyone involved has always been extremely skilled, knowledgeable, and have gone the extra mile to make sure my bike is in good working order while also doing so with a sense of urgency and comprehensiveness. If they spot anything else wrong with the bike that's a real quick fix, they'll do it, if they spot that I as a customer am lacking is knowledge that could risk my safety on the road, they'll educate me in a professional, friendly way. I've had several experiences working with Dan and Matt here, and both have been more than helpful. Finding what I've just described is so rare in a store these days, and this store has stood out above ALL others in this regard. If I had to redesign the retail and service industry, I would model it...

My wife and I were riding our Trek Verve+ 3 hybrid eBikes on Hwy 101 through coastal Encinitas on Wednesday afternoon. We knew the Trek store that took over the Nytro Multisport site early in 2022 had closed months ago...gee it wasn't open long. I'm sure it proved way too small to be a viable location. My wife has been pointing out this new store closer to Philz Coffee for weeks so I thought it was time to have a look inside. A friendly Trek employee greeted me the moment I stepped through the front entrance. I asked how long they have been open...2 months was his reply. The interior looks really great....like a warehouse size space with lots of color. We bought our Trek Verve + 3 eBikes at the San Marcos store which is quite a way from our home in Solana Beach. In fact the customer service there is so professional that we take our eBikes there for regular servicing rather than the Solana Beach location. We will have to think about...
