It is completed! Finally! It is absolutely beautiful and lots of places to sit and go fishing. When it has been raining alot you cannot access the whole path. I'll copy and paste what Eugene Rec has on their website about the pond path.
"While the trail provides important connectivity, visitors should note that segments may be temporarily inaccessible during high water events. This design approach was intentionally chosen to balance multiple priorities.
The trail's placement reflects our commitment to protecting the sensitive Delta Ponds ecosystem, which serves as critical habitat for diverse wildlife including Chinook salmon, northwestern pond turtles, herons, beavers, otters, and numerous bird species.
The ponds' direct connection to the Willamette River creates a dynamic water system influenced by both local weather and upstream dam operations. While elevating the entire trail above high water levels was considered, this would have required an additional 1,500 feet of boardwalk—a solution that was cost-prohibitive both for construction and long-term maintenance.
Trail users should plan accordingly during wet weather months, as water levels can change. "
Beautiful beautiful place in town to walk. The only downfall to these paths is that it is not yet a circle. Although it is to be finished in 2025 I heard, as well as you can hear all the free way traffic. Although it is so peaceful and serene that you can almost forget the traffic is there. I often see Great White Egbert's, Pond Turtles, Great Blue Heron's, many species of ducks, and in the spring, there are baby dragonflies! If you like walking paths, this is a very easy one to do. Little kids could do it, but if your kid wanders easily, they could end up in the pond due to easy access at many points. People also come here to fish a lot. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR. Read moreIt’s a beautiful place where you can stroll before or after shopping—or simply take a leisurely walk while admiring the lotus flowers blooming in the pond. I’ve visited this spot many times, often while coming to shop at Macy’s or JCPenney. But lately, it feels like I come here solely for this place. There are several viewpoints scattered throughout where you can enjoy the scenery. Around this time of year, the intense sunlight and uncomfortable temperatures can be tough, but the shade under the trees offers a relaxing retreat. You can simply search for “Delta Pond Upper Parking Lot” on Google Maps to find your way there. One downside is the lack of trash bins—except at the starting point—so I have to carry my dog’s waste bags the whole way. And being close to the highway means there’s some noise and dust, which is a bit unfortunate. Still, this spot is definitely worth recommending, and I think I’ll keep...
Read moreThis spot is very close to Valley River Center off Goodpasture, convenient for a lunch break nature walk or jog or bird-watching while waiting for someone who is shopping or at one of the dental or doctor offices nearby. You will see turtles, nutria, Great Blue Herons, geese, ducks and their babies, and other water fowl, along shaded trails with several viewing platforms and places to sit. There are two small parking areas and the northern one has 2 porta potties. Nice spot for folks with young kids in strollers, or folks who are differently-abled, as northern part of trail is a wooden boardwalk out to a viewing platform with safety railings and...
