Sequoia park is a beautiful place to visit and explore. Breathtaking giant Redwood Trees cover most of the property. There are walking trails throughout the park. You will discover delicate bushy ferns, Rhododendron Bushes, wild Lillies and other local flora and fona fill in the landscape at the base of the giant Redwoods Trees.
The park has a flowering garden area with benches and wishing well made out of rocks.
There is a zoo with monkeys, bears, otter pond, other animals, bird aviary, flamingos, petting zoo for kids with barn yard animals, other displays and educational/learning areas all over the grounds. Nice gift shop, small novelty items such as marbles, rocks, books to quality clothing, blankets, kaleidoscopes, local souvenirs and more. There is a clean and quaint restaurant where you can order lunch and eat either indoors or sit outside. Quality food is offered such as grilled cheese sandwiches, hamburgers, fish and chips, salads, homemade milkshakes, fries, ice cream and more.
This park has a playground with swings, slides, climbing equipment, merry go round and more. In addition to the walking trails there is a paved road where you can either walk or drive through the heart of the parks Redwood Forest that leads you to a duck pond in a lower area of the park where you will find a dozen or more ducks live. There is a small play area for toddlers plus wooden picnic tables and benches for sitting while watching the ducks or taking in the scenery around you. You can also walk to the back side of the pond where an old rock fireplace and chimney still exists from a once charming cottage that had been built on the property in the early 1900's.
When you leave the duck pond you will climb a steep paved hill. At the top is a waterfall that is a long time favorite on hot days for kids and dogs alike.
The Sequoia Park is in the the process of being upgraded in phases. One of the most exciting things to be added will be a skytrail. There will be more up grades and additions to the playground, zoo, trails and public areas. There is a fee to enter the zoo. Everything else is free to the public from...
Read moreI love this place. Its here for me everyday to look at something the rest of the world doesn't and won't have. Coast Redwoods are gorgeous things to crank your neck to watch.
Tl;Dr it's one of the most beautiful walks in town, but don't let your dog sniff along the duck pond unless you want a fish hook it isn't nose... It won't matter if all you're doing is walking the sky bridge tho...
With that said I'm not going there very much these days. I used to watch the newts and ducks but I keep finding fishing hooks along the fences where my dogs like to sniff and walk - like dogs do. I don't have to mention the lines being caught in that beautiful maple across the way and on the only Redwood on the duck island. Every time I go there, there is new fishing lines and hooks on the ground. I'm not being dramatic. It's not like a bunch at a time, but since I look after the dogs, I notice when a new one pops up. I go... went there every other day. I'd drive across town bc it's that easy and that special. When I walk in I say to my friend "not everyone has this" "we just get this, everyday" bc it's pretty easy to forget what we have here in Eureka, Humboldt. But it gets me down so much to see how easily people don't care or don't pay attention. The absolute amazing past time of fishing is such a cool idea, but it is not functional at the park. I hope the city will stop the fishing. It really gets me down to go into the woods and see the litter that inevitably gets in from the street or from your occasional cigarette butthead... But this fishing line issue is pretty bad. Ppl act as if a fishing pond is around every corner... Its that easy to not appreciate the unique opportunity given to us by stocking the pond. I just wish I could go there and not see fishing lines and hooks. At least you could have put out a trash can, not recycle bin, NEXT to and on BOTH SIDES, of the pond. Put buckets up specifically for lines and hooks. Ppl can't be bothered to walk to the other side of the parking lot. It was /hard enough for them to /pack in the lines, how can you expect them to walk all that way across the parking lot to throw them away in the only trash can inside the park.
Please. This experiment failed. Everyone that was a responsible fisher will have to give it up bc poor/absent stewardship from other fishers. I don't like going...
Read moreWe absolutely love coming here for parties when the weather permits. You can bbq and play and visit. They have a road you can walk on that takes you into the sequoias. There are bathrooms and a duck pond. There is a great place behind the bathrooms we use for hanging pinatas they have a gazebo as well. This park is attached to the zoo which has a skywalk (can't wait to check out)and a beautiful garden. The whole area is pretty. This place stays pretty busy in the spring in summer months and the tables and grills are limited. So, my negative thought about this park is they won't allow you to reserve spots. So, first come first serve. Which for birthday parties is ok but I wanted to get married out here and without being allowed to make reservations and pay a small fee I would be stuck sending someone out early to save our spot and still public park so folks can still come into your area. Other than that best park around to take your family to and enjoy a day of play and picnic's and walks through the...
