I was approached by the manager, Derek, before I even ordered. Before I could say anything, He told me to do my shopping before I ordered a drink from them so I wouldnāt be pulling my mask down while I was in the store. I was surprised. His approach was condescending. Iāve ordered a drink from this Starbucks and walked around the store with it several times since the pandemic started. I am careful to socially distance. I stood stunned for a few minutes and thought I would decide what to order when I was permitted to do so. The barista came over and asked what I wanted so I decided I could order. I was really thirsty and had been looking forward to my coffee drink for a while. Derek was then in line at Safeway and I saw him look at me and say āyou gotta be kidding me.ā It was obvious he was angry. In order to avoid a conflict, I went and stood IN THE CORNER alone drinking my coffee. Not good enough. Derek went out of his way to come over to me and tell me I couldnāt have my mask off to take a drink in the store. āThatās why we ask you to order when you are done shopping.ā I said ābut Iām socially distancing.ā He said he was the manager and I couldnāt stand there and drink my coffee. I wondered if he was the manager of the Safeway? Because I was standing in a remote part of the Safeway when he approached me. I went and put my Frappuccino in my vehicle. I thankfully tried the beverage before I drove away.
