We made the 3 hour Kajak tour on 15th August 2025.
The first thing I like to make abundantly clear is that my rating is not reflective of our guide Sean. His tour and guidance were solid in every way. My wife, son and I felt safe with him. Sean had all the information someone could ever expect inside this event.
BUT! Here is the kicker. The transparency and information related to me concerning the preparation for the tour itself is quite far from acceptable. Here is why. The mail I received from Everglades Adventures Kayak & Eco Tours stated to bring possibly long clothes, a change of clothes (nondescript), shoes that can get muddy and a bug repellent. So we got there with long rash guards, swim shoes and hats. Of course the rash guards are tight fitting long clothing. And this is where the trouble starts. There are a literal ton of mosquitos during that tour and they are quite capable of biting through tight clothing like swim shirts and rash guard pants. Let me add that the normal bug repellant does not work at all. I sprayed this on my legs additionally to the pants and the mosquitos kept biting anyway. Only thing on the plus side if things is that Sean gave us a Net to cover our head/face. In the end I for the most part got literally like 200+ of bits on my arms and legs from my ankle up to my upper thigh. The pic shows the outside of my upper right arm and I can assure you that apart from my upper body, hands and feet (I found a loose T-shirt in the car and put that on + the safety vest, and my mechanic gloves, 3 millimeter neoprene watershoes) and my face, everything only covered with tight shirt and rash guard pants was covered with bites in the same way.
Again, the tour itself is a solid and worthy experience with Sean. We saw Gators and a lot more. Here is what the Company should have let us know (so you the reader can enjoy this without insanely itching for 3 days and nights):
Bring long WIDE Clothing. Preferably with thicker fabric. Make sure your clothes cover all of you. I recommend a light Rain jacket or maybe a flannel long shirt. Same for the pants. Bring a Pair of gloves (I used leather tactical mechanic gloves which I normally change tires with) Make sure the mosquitos can not crawl up you legs inside your pants (I was wearing Surf shorts, and they made it upwards much further then I liked them to). I don´t get any benefits for saying that but the bug repellent “No Bite” is the only thing that works. Another participant was kind enough to give some of his No Bite to my son, and he got far less bits than me. My repellent was utterly useless. Bring a Basball Cap so the mosquito net gets some distance from your face! I had a normal round sunhat on, and it was ok but the visor from a base ball cap is far more convenient. Bring closed shoes with thicker materials without holes (No Crocs, flip-flops, sandals etc.).
Bottom line: Very good guide and tour, terrible relay of need to know information by the company Everglades Adventures Kayak & Eco...

Read moreOverall, we had a good experience with Everglades Adventures Kayak & Eco Tours. We rented a single kayak and tandem kayak for a four day camping trip (2 adults, 1 kid). We had a snafu where the rudder cable on our tandem kayak broke shortly after launch, but after we called the office sent someone promptly with a new kayak and they even shuttled us to a new put-in to make up for lost time. The replacement kayak was quite nice. Equipment was otherwise in reasonably good condition, although definitely well-used. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and we especially appreciated the quick replacement kayak. There were a few areas for improvement: things seemed organized around single-day tours and we had trouble getting complete information about our multiday rental (when and where to show up, what to do when we got back, etc.). Also, after emailing for and receiving rental advice, we had reserved the recommended 5 gal water containers and a large food box... turns out those don't work with kayaks! This led to a bit of last-minute scrambling for alternate water and food storage. To their credit Everglades Adventures Kayak & Eco Tours loaned us dry bags instead and also gave us a whole case of small water bottles to make up for the miscommunication. Finally, in our repacking scramble, we had accidentally left a nice nav chart in our 1st kayak (the one that had to be replaced), which we unfortunately weren't able to recover when our trip ended (it hadn't been found or turned in to the office staff). In short, multiday rentals could be more organized... if you opt for a multiday rental be sure to call several times until you are sure you have complete and accurate information. Especially if you (like us) have limited prior experience with...
