My sister & I took the train from Anchorage to Seward. While checking in, we inquired about upgrading, then decided to do it. Well, I must say, it was so worth it!!! If you can upgrade, go for it. From boarding & thru out the whole trip, the staff was so awesome. The conductor, our car bartender & the guide that narrated the trip, made it such a pleasure. The views from our car with their domed glass, was beyond spectacular!!! There's an observation deck right outside the car that allows you closer views & better picture taking opportunities. The 4 hr ride didn't seem long at all, as there was so much to see & "experience" with every turn & around every bend. The changing landscape with the snow capped mountains, low hanging clouds, waterfalls, gorges, lakes & most breath taking of all, the icebergs, was like nothing we've ever experienced. For breakfast, we had options that included locally sourced food items. The omelets, grits with fruit compote was unbelievable. I asked if it was possible to have some items added, mixed & matched, since there was one or two choices I wasn't fond of. Our server, was FANTASTIC, she made it happen!!! Which of course made the trip even more incredible. We spent the day in Seward & on our trip back to Anchorage, (same staff for the return trip), dinner was served & again the food was delicious. Evening views from the car were just as incredible. Was able to see some eagles & a few moose. I have to say, I'm definitely looking forward to riding the train again for our next...
Read moreThe ride is beautiful. Breakfast is included. However they lost a star because when we board our conductor came on and gave a long explanation of how getting breakfast works due to limited space. They were extremely adamant that it was preferred for you to go get your food at your leisure and take it back to your seat. He continued to explain how people will sometimes try to spend the whole trip in the food car and make it hard for others to eat. However after about 45 minutes a few people from our car wanted to get food. The staff rudely exclaimed that we were not allowed in the dinner car without an escort and to sit back down. We would be informed by them when they would excort us. As you can imagine people were confused because it was a 7 minute explanation of how it worked. Considering the entire train was repeatedly told incorrect information the staff really had to reason to react so rudely. And why did the conductor give out such false information? Do you really expect me to believe the person in charge of explaining to an entire train of people how their system works doesn't know? Because I absolutely do not...
Read moreAs excited as we were to come all the way from New York and ride this most northern commuter train from Fairbanks we didn’t have the best experience. We had mostly seniors on our car and they were coughing and sneezing openly from the moment we got in the train. Do they know that there are many strains of COVID’s out there and respiratory infections?
Me and my disabled daughter wore masks for the majority of the trip as a precaution while our fellow passengers went repeatedly to the bar on our gold star service for liquor. The more they drank the rowdier they became. My daughter and I became their hate targets as we were wearing face masks and not drinkers. A woman even walked by and bashed my shoulder as I was sitting in my seat half-asleep on this over twelve hour ride.
This train allows this to happen because they don’t want to offend the majority of their paying gold star customers while putting the safety of the minority like me and my daughter to people like these.
The natural and amazingly beautiful scenery of wild...
