Short details:
Awesome beach park. For a small entrance fee you get access to a lake front park that is super clean and well maintained, with lifeguards and lots of beach area. The water quality is always posted outside the entrance hut, which leads into a relative medium sized parking area. With small restroom area and shallow wading area, a great place to relax with family and friends, or just by yourself to get a tan on the beach or cool off in the water.
Complete review:
The beach front is pretty long before you reach the shoreline, allowing for a lot of fun activities, and is always very clean and usually safe. There is a partial boardwalk and partial mesh track to walk very easily out about half way onto the beach itself. Always remember to bring an umbrella if you dont want a tan! Altho no food or beverages sold on site (so bring your own), remembrr not to leave any unattended food or they will definitely be lost to the seagulls (see alternative review for "Seagull Smackdown Birdfighting arena".. jk)
The water quality can vary depending on the weather and can be clear on great days, while the shoreline is a combo of gravel and sand, and very shallow allowing knee height wading for about 50 feet out before becoming very deep, so kids (while should always be monitored) can enjoy the water under a watchful eye. Best thing is to walk with folding chairs and place them in the water to sit and enjoy a little sun and a little splashing around at the same time.
There are quite a few jet skis and some kayaks, I believe for rental all along the wading area. Lakefront pier allows for yachts to make a pitstop and enjoy the sandy beach as well.
The restrooms are a bit small with 2 to 3 stalls and a changing room/toilet combined, but usually well kept, with shower post outside to rinse off after swimming.
As for picnic areas there are a few outdoor grills around the front just off parking next to the restrooms. And for larger gatherings there are a few permanent circular tents with concrete floors great for family and friends or groups...
Read moreThis is a wonderful beach. As long as you get here early, and it's not too busy, it's easy and cheap to park ($3 for out of county, $2 in county). The views are beautiful, and the facilities have everything you need: bathroom, changing rooms separate from the bathroom, showers, concessions stand. There is even a small playground. They have kayak and paddle board rentals right on the beach. There are lifeguards as well. The water is shallow and very consistent in depth, pretty much the same depth of about 3 feet almost all the way out to the swimming ropes, where it does get a little deeper, 5+ feet. The water seems clean, and they do have algae postings, and both times we went the water was safe per the green sign. There is plenty of sand on the beach, but be aware that as you step into the water it does get rocky until you get further out to more sand. This can be uncomfortable on your feet, so you may want to consider water shoes, although most people do fine without them.
Overall, great beach experience. We will...
Read moreWonderful beach! As a kid we always went to Mentor Headlands, but this beach is much nicer, and I feel like I missed out all those years never knowing this place existed right next door on the other side of the lighthouse. No rocky sand and no big waves thanks to the breakwalls! The concession stand has a great selection of snacks, ice cream, drinks, and meals at super cheap prices. Rent canoes, kayaks, standup paddleboards, and sailboats for $10 per hour! If you have a dog, bring it here to the dog park area to go swimming, or take them out on the kayak or standup paddle board with you! The pavilions are great for picnics and parties, the sand volleyball courts are always up and ready to be used, and the playgrounds are great for the little ones! Bring your own Jet skis or boats and launch them right here as well! If you have never been here you are missing out. This is the best beach on Lake Erie -...
