A little disappointed. It's 2021 and just like we have 1963 pictures of the moon in black and white still. The museum is still displaying native people as Indians, soon as you walk in the door. But the true NATIVES are in the back of the museum locked in the slavery narrative. Even in the journals of all European explorers that ever came to the America's, have mentioned that they saw AFRICANS. Africans showed Europeans how to get to this CONTINENT. "Not Indians"! A little disappointed indeed.

I had some time to kill, and the museum complex exceeded my expectations. The admission is free, and I was more than happy to donate. This is a great museum for the area, but the real gem is the tour in the Victorian house of EA Poe. This is not THE Edgar Allan Poe whom is the famous writer, but rather someone from the area whom was progressive that sent his six daughters to college. Highly recommend the Poe tour that makes this place shine.

We had a great time at the museum! There is a parking lot available. Right now there is a display of drawings rendered from very small pictures of black members of a regiment and a researched history of each. It was very interesting to read and is there thru July. There is also a display about the native Americans. There is a really cool canoe. Next door is the Poe House which is really fun to tour as well.

I used to volunteer here and it is a treasure of Fayetteville. You can take a guided tour through the museum or just walk through by yourself for free. The exhibits give true insight into Civil War history in Fayetteville and how the Fayetteville Observer building was burned down. They also give information about what was traded here and what goods were made here as well as pioneer life. It was a hard life but they made it work. The arsenal that was taken by Sherman is memorialized across the highway and the Poe House gives an idea of how a home in 1800s...

Such a great experience! We had such a great time with the guided tour, we happened to be the only ones there the day/time we chose to go so we had a wonderful one on one experience with the tour guide that helped us that day. (Really wish I could remember her name, but all the staff was so kind!) Such a gorgeous home with such a rich history. The gift shop was great too, picked up a new book! But they also have toys, candies, and the works. Would definitely recommend, especially for littles, as they have a monthly history...
