The Upper Badlands has 18 holes with a good amount of elevation change for the metro area. There are a couple par 4 holes for most average players. There are some water hazards to deal with. There are even a couple "pro" tees (#12 & 17) to add some spice. The baskets on slopes can provide risk/reward opportunities. It can get muddy after rain or snow melt. There's some new posts presumably for signs as of 2023. Signage has been a challenge, but Udiscs helps.
The Lower Badlands include a bunch of harder to figure out holes that date back quite a while ago. The property I think belongs to Hyland Hills park district (which also has Upper Badlands and Water World). A part of this includes the Blair Woods holes, where there are some different vintage baskets. As currently set up, there are really 19 obvious holes to play. The tee pads are dirt with the occasional mat. There are 2 ponds that can gobble an errant throw. There is a tiny creek that catches discs. When it's fully green, the foliage can hide even some decent throws.
Snowmelt and rains can make for slippery footing.
It appears some unhomed folks set camp at times here. Coyotes wander through too.
This could be nicer if we could get this area cleaned up.
Currently (February 2022) there is a big pipe project digging up...
Read moreI attended this part mainly for the disc golf course which actually there are two named upper Badlands and lower Badlands, the upper Badlands course is a challenging long 18-hole course tee box signs are adequate key boxes have something to be desired whole length, and challenges are good and the course flows well around the Hillside and a few Pond. The lower course has nothing but upside to it. It plays long and plenty of room for better signage, that are tee boxes, that are basket signage and numbering, and lay out. Is longer than the first 18 in and around the baseball fields, with good use of the park. Hope the city can budget a little extra money to get in proper pads, and basket signs to make this a quality...
Read moreDo not attempt this disc golf coarse if you have seasonal allergies, or if you expect to know where the next hole is.
We went last night with a group of our kid's friends. When we weren't looking for our discs in knee high grass we were trying to figure out where the next hole was. Nothing was clearly marked, we couldn't even find holes 3-6. My poor daughter was so miserable by the end that we didn't even finish the coarse.
So, if you want to pay disc golf Bear Gryllis style this is the place to go. If you want to have a fun, relaxing time with friends and family go elsewhere! Thank goodness for a sense of humor, we laughed about the whole thing!
Needless to say we will not...
