My best friends favorite place to play! She will run, jump and swim all day here. The next best thing about this place, other than the smile on her face is how awesome all the other dog owners are.
If you own one of those breeds who play too rough, I highly suggest you bring that breed of dog to this park as soon as they have learned their name, the younger the better. I'm suggesting you do this to socialize your dog from an early age. All the older dogs I've come across here have been raised properly and know how to play with other dogs in a fun and friendly way because the owners raised them right.
As an aggressive breed owner, it's your responsibility to tame the aggressiveness. These are typically high energy dogs, so lots of running and swimming helps release that built up energy and releasing that energy with other dogs of different shapes and sizes helps them learn how to interact with other breeds a bit more properly. This isn't the end all cure all, but if you start at an early age, this is a great place to bring those breeds and prove that they can be just as loving, playful, and friendly as every other dog!
I came to Snyder park 2-3 times a week with my pitbull stating at 3-4 months old, and because of the great socializing skills she learned from the other dogs and the things I learned from talking to the other owners, those interactions helped make her everyone's favorite pit inside and outside of the park!
There are other fun things to do here, but for dog lovers this is a hidden gem! If it's your first time you're gonna need to ask where the dog lake is. And if your doggies like the water, I highly suggest wearing water shoes, bringing their favorite toy to play fetch with, and something to eat and drink for the both of you, cuz you're going to stay longer than expected!
Thank you to the park employees for keeping the place beautiful, and thank you to the responsible dog owners who...
Read moreWent for a “critter walk” at sunset in the middle of the summer. It was 90 degrees at 8pm, and humid, very uncomfortable. The girls who led the tour took us on a mile long walk to look at the nocturnal residents of the park.
Unfortunately, the park was, apparently, almost totally bereft of life. As in no birds chirping, no insects even making noise. It was very uncanny.
We walked for an hour, and the only wildlife we saw was a tiny ringneck snake and a raccoon crossing the road (we all wondered, “Why?”).
I also noticed that almost half of the main parking area on the front was full of construction equipment, boom lifts, etc. I asked the Ranger if that was normal and she said yes, apparently the city has adopted it for overflow maintenance equipment parking. So that’s the first thing you see as you enter the park.
On top of having no wildlife, the south side of the park used to have a swimming lake, which they’ve destroyed and turned into a private Pickleball court, that the public is not allowed to use. Seriously?
The Pickleball courts in a public park require a membership. I think that’s absurd.
Any peace or tranquility that the park might have offered in theory or once upon a time is long gone. Standing in a closed park at sunset, all I could hear was the scream of traffic on 595 and the roar of jet engines as planes landed and took off from the airport, both of which are adjacent on the south side...
Read moreAs a Florida native and one who grew up just blocks away from Snyder park, I must give this place 5 stars! It really is a beautiful place that is lush with beautiful oaks lining the roads. Huge ficus trees as well that offer tremendous shade for the board walk paths that meander through the woods. Lots of wildlife can be seen as well. Many types of birds, racoons and of course, the Florida iguana! The park has a really spacious dog park to the left side of the main entrance as well as an organic garden in the center with picnic tables alongside. There are also very beautiful lakes that offer dog swimming and add a nice scenic touch to something already beautiful. When I was a kid we would visit on weekends and swim at what was once an open beach within the park however that's been closed for a while now. The lake is still just as I remember it! Along the edge of the bigger of two lakes are beautiful, raised gazebo huts that can be rented for birthdays or whatever you might like. They have BBQ grills beside each one! Great center park playground for younger kids (my kids love it!). The park is very easy to find by taking 4th avenue south of sr84 all the way to perimeter Rd near ft Lauderdale/Hollywood international airport. Go midweek to have it a little more quiet. Airport and nearby highways can create a rush of noise at times but I honestly don't mind it while walking...
