My wife and I have been seeking a church where we can truly learn and grow in our faith. I have a very mixed opinion about our visit here.
The worship was lovely. I loved the songs, the worship team did stellar, but the audience was dead. I felt like I was the only one worshiping which made my heart sad. The worship team sang on and I give them props for bringing the energy even when the crowd didn’t reflect it back to them.
Now the message. I LOVED the topic and am very passionate about it. But he was all over the place and it should have been broken into two or three days.
That being said, I felt he missed the mark. He made a lot of great points and it was clear he put a lot of effort into preparing the message. He had a lot of points he wanted to make but because he had so many each one didn’t land properly. It was rushed feeling. I felt that if I didn’t already have a deep understanding of scripture already, I might have misinterpreted what he was trying to say. In my opinion, it wouldn’t be received very well by someone spiritually immature…
He meant well, the message was intended to be positive, but it was framed poorly. He basically talked about our shortcomings as human beings but never gave the hope of Christ afterwards.. so we were left with how we are broken. I believe he meant for us to learn that when we feed our flesh, we draw farther from the spirit. When we crucify our flesh, we draw closer to the spirit. Our ultimate goal as Christian’s should be to imitate Christ. This is a daily pursuit, that we can never truly accomplish (but the point is the pursuit). Wish it was presented better because it’s a much needed teaching!
He also kept saying that we aren’t willing to imitate Christ. Every day I pray I might honor Christ by breaking free of my selfishness in pursuit of being more like Him. So I disagreed. I get it was trying to emphasize the point that we are broken sinners in need of living differently, but you can’t discredit that it’s a daily battle we all face. It isn’t hopeless (our hope is in Christ, duh!)
I love that this church is rooted in biblical truth and they aren’t afraid to speak for what they believe. It’s what drew me to it. Not the reviews, but the website blurb. Church NEEDS to be this way. It’s so destructive that most churches “only say what you want to hear so you feel good”. We need church to stand firm on what’s morally right and wrong. BUT we have to do that framed through the true love of Christ. It can’t just be doom and gloom or you push people away which is contrary to what He wants. It’s all about how you frame it. I felt this church has the right intent, but does it carelessly.
Pastor asked for Google reviews multiple times, it’s also on their pamphlet. They also have shown up as “sponsored” with a Google search. I have issue with churches paying for advertisements and being pushy about that kind of thing. Feels like a business looking for more customers.
I’m willing to try them again, but here’s my review...
Read moreIf you folks are searching for a church that is friendly and open plus has a great pre-school, and places to educate & help watch your children while attending church services then this is a great place to visit. It is a church where scripture is taught and God and Jesus are the primary topics. The services begin with great music provided by church staff that actually attend and worship the Lord, not professionally paid musicians, and once three great songs are played, we all settle down to hear to a great sermon that comes directly from the Bible & the Pastor Greg's heart. So if this is what you are looking for, great!!! However, if you are looking for a make you feel good, pay for forgiveness religion, type of church; I can tell you this is not the church for you. I will tell you all my wife and I see is smiling faces coming out of each of the three Sunday services as folks fellowship with each other, as they grab and hug all those that they know and have met. I am a 75 year old retired grizzly old homicide detective who has seen a great deal of the worst in the world, and I look forward to going to church each Sunday and Wednesday night each weak because I know that through this church, God is trying to make me a better man. I hope this helps you find your...
Read moreI have been coming to LOTW for many years now. I attend service, I have participated in a mission trip, and have even gotten to know Pastor Greg and others who participate with this Church well. LOTW is truly one of a kind, and I’ll tell you why. Pastor Greg does not just read from the Bible to tell a message, but rather he speaks on a message in a way that either we can relate to, or even pertains to our own lives. I truly believe God speaks through Pastor Greg with every sermon he gives. Pastor Greg also has a podcast in which he speaks more on questions and concerns he feels are needing to be addressed to help today’s society. We all know we live in a crazy world, but Pastor Greg communicates God’s words through love and truly wants what is best for not just me or you, but us all. If you have never come to a service, I highly encourage you do so for you to experience the music, love, acceptance, culture, and hear the words of who I feel is one of the best, most honest and most humble...
