Yesterday, I went shopping at 99 Ranch Market. As I was exiting the store, an employee at the entrance stopped me and asked, “Did you pay?” I replied, “Yes,” and continued walking. Suddenly, he shouted loudly behind me, calling me back and insisting on checking my receipt.
What shocked me was that he only stopped me — he did not check any other customers. I asked him, “Why are you checking only me and not others? Why are you suspecting me?” He said nothing and proceeded to check every single item against the receipt, taking nearly a full minute, before finally letting me go.
This experience made me feel extremely humiliated and angry. I am not a thief, yet I was treated like one. The employee claimed it was “part of his job,” but I cannot accept being singled out and treated with suspicion without any explanation or cause. As a paying customer, being stopped, questioned, and investigated in this way — with no clear reason — felt like a violation of my dignity.
I believe the employee’s actions were inappropriate. I would like to know: • Was his behavior legal and justified? • Does the store allow employees to randomly and selectively stop customers like this? • Can I file a formal complaint to hold him accountable for his actions?
This incident left me with a lasting emotional impact. The thought of returning to this store now makes me anxious. Being checked or not is completely out of my control which makes me...
Read moreThe cashier YELLed at customer in public. BRAVO! Ranch 99 Foster City.
It is out of my imagination of how bad attitude a cashier has. I am generally fine with the poor to non-existing customer service in Asian supermarket. But yelling at customer in public? EXCUSE ME!!!!!!!!!! RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can a cashier treat a customer like a slave in her backyard? COME ON!!!!! Please watch your attitude! This cashier is 40-50 woman, she yelled at me and verbally abused me during my visit. I was so angry, and asked her to get her manager. She told me “GET OFF THE LINE, DONT BLOCK OTHERS, THEN YOU CAN COMPLAIN” and she refused to tell me how to find the manager.
EXCUSE ME??????!!! The store manager, is it how you train the employees? Is it ok to say this to the customer? Well done!
In the end I was able to ask other employee and he finally helped me to get the manager, but when I complained everything to the store manager, he kept saying he will train the employees well in the future. And the cashier who yelled at me at least 4 times refused to show up and apologize.
Well apparently she thought it is totally ok to yell and curse the customers. GOOD JOB! Well trained employee....
Read moreLooks like this location has improved a little since my shopping trip in Nov. 2022, when I found a package of meat with mildew on it. The meat section looks pretty well stocked, although in terms of freshness, it is still not on par with other Asian markets of similar size.
The vegetables look okay, with some (e.g. broccoli) looking more fresh than others (e.g. cabbages). The egg section doesn't look that great. The egg cartons are sort of scattered, which could be the customers' doing. I highly suggest opening the egg cartons to check the eggs before buying; because I saw some cracked eggs during my previous shopping trips.
The bakery items are mediocre--the bread and cake being too dry. They don't taste like they are baked fresh daily. The bakery staff is usually grumpy.
Thank goodness at least the staff at the seafood section and at the checkout lanes are...
