Read moreI have a late model BMW 4-series sedan and was looking for a hitch and bike rack. The first place I went was a "traditional" trailering/cap store, which was oriented mostly to trucks, SUVs and other vehicles normally associated with towing. The guy there wouldn't touch my vehicle -- he said it's too complicated to disassemble the rear bumper, and that the commonly available hitch components would not fit.
I then found Rack Attack and learned on their website that there's a particular hitch model that is best suited to my particular vehicle. This hitch is expensive, but it has the added feature that it can be unlocked and removed from the mount point, leaving no trace when the hitch/rack are not being used.
I contacted Rack Attack and the process of ordering the components (both the hitch and the rack) was very smooth. I made an appointment to have everything installed.
On installation day, I arrived at Rack Attack in Framingham, MA and saw that there were two other late model BMWs in the lot -- that instilled some confidence. The staff gave me an estimate for total installation/set-up time, which they beat by about an hour. When I picked up the vehicle, the staff gave me a thorough and knowledgeable explanation on how everything works.
Overall, I'm very happy with Rack Attack. They are knowledgeable, professional, and they make accurate projections on how long things will take. The rack and hitch have been performing very well, including over some bumpy roads with the rack fully loaded with bicycles. I would definitely use Rack Attack again -- especially for a vehicle that doesn't normally have the capability...
Read moreOne recent weekend, I was in a bind as time was running out before a trip that required I use the old Yakima rooftop box. I spent Saturday fiddling with the lock, which was broken, in hopes of swapping out the lock core for one which I had a key for, and was guaranteed working. I couldn’t get it swapped out. Giving up, I resolved to continue to use the trusty screwdriver as the key. As I was going on a longer trip with multiple stops and street parking overnight, I wanted something more to secure the rooftop gear.
Fast forward to Sunday. It turns out Rack Attack was open on Sunday, so I called and asked about the part I was hoping to replace. After several phone calls and photos sent via email, it turns out that the store had the part I was looking for, from a donor roof box. I drove the 45min to the store in the middle of a crazy rainstorm, and chatted with the gentleman at the store who helped me over the phone. The part was a direct match for what I needed, and was offered at a very fair price. I bought the part and was on my way. When I get home, I swapped the new part in. It worked perfect and disaster was averted.
I have to say I was super lucky that day, as the store happened to have the part, which was a non-stocked part. If Rack Attack had not had the part, I would have spent more time on the phone calling Yakima to find out if they even stocked it.
TL;DR: I learned that Rack Attack in Framingham has great customer service and saved me in that...
