I had a fantastic experience at Richardson Trading Co. - far beyond what I would describe as "shopping." I entered focused on a specific item, and was greeted by a young lady at the jewelry counter. She showed me exactly what I was seeking, but the workmanship was far superior to what my price range would allow. At this point, my special-needs son let me know it was about time for us to leave. I was ready to head out but the young lady assisting us jumped right in to meet his needs and make him comfortable.
Her compassion turned what could have been a complete failure into an amazing 90 minutes. We were escorted behind the curtain to see beautiful tooled and silver adorned saddles stacked to the ceiling (in storage, not for sale). We were shown through the gallery of paintings, then into the rug room! We were surrounded by beautiful items wherever we gazed.
I ultimately found three items that called to me, and left feeling blessed by the encounter. The best shopping experience I have ever had is not an overstatement. Do not bypass this experience...
Read morewe were helped today by a individual named “julie” she was so informative about the styles of jewelry and rugs she definitely made the experience 10x better, we conversed in navajo and made great quality conversation.. i highly suggest coming if you want to know more about native american culture and the history of gallup etc. the only complaint i have is that some of the items e.g navajo baskets are placed downwards from the ceiling (which isn’t right) it would be nice for the owner(s) to take that into consideration by placing them somewhere else that is respectful to our culture/beliefs; for all we know.. they make a great deal of money benefiting off of our art.. if you ever come by.. ask for julie 🤍 she will make your...
Read moreFantastic place! Large amount of local native history on display, and understandably not for sale. Very high quality Native American craftsmanship is offered for sale. Definitely not cheap, but you can tell the amount of labor that goes into making each piece. My wife purchased some earrings and a Zuni owl fetish carving... they are gorgeous pieces. The employee that assisted us knew we didn't have a ton of money to spend, so she showed us pieces in our price range. She even took us in the back to show us more of their collection, and explained a great deal of local Hopi, Navajo and Zuni culture and history to my family. Highly recommended, and a must stop if you are in the...
