Let me start off by saying that i love this park. My kids and i love walking the trails, having picnics and enjoying the scenery.
We had an incident today when we were having a picnic in the green space near the disc golf. It was our first time sitting in that area and i made sure to sit behind these little trees as to not be in the way just in case there were players near by. I thought it would be cool and didn't think much of it UNTILL...my son almost got hit in the head by one of the discs!
Now, i was laying down when i heard my daughter gasp and i saw the disc fly and i don't know for sure if it actually hit his head or flew over him but it landed really close behind him. My son is autistic and non verbal so he wasn't able to tell me if it actually hit him so i was looking for signs of distress on his face. I was very upset because even if we were in the way ( which i didn't think we were, we were behind trees and the post was on the other side of them), why would you still try and throw the disc anyway knowing we were sitting there. I felt like we were being targeted and done on purpose to try and scare us away!
When the three men came up to get the disc, i asked if it hit my son and one of the guys said no. So i said why would you throw it, knowing we're sitting here and could possibly hit us? They all started talking at the same time accusing me of being in the way! I was so scared because as they were talking, i felt like they were standing too close and they were ganging up on us! As a woman alone with my children and three men standing over us like that, i did not feel safe! They didn't seem to care at all about our safety or have any empathy towards us. Although, one stayed to try and explain and apologize, the other two just walked off like they didn't care.
I have never felt discriminated against at a park like this before, it was upsetting...
Read moreI like Alexander Park. It's big open space with a huge playground! There is Frisbee golf and plenty of trails to walk on. There is also a dog park. You can rent a pavilion for your group, which is very affordable so you can host a birthday party, family event or anything else that you don't want people destroying your house! There is also a smaller playground on the other side of the park that you can drive to through the park or on the main road. Just make sure to specify to friends where you're meeting up because there is no indication which part of the park you're at! My issues with Alexander park is the design of the entrance and parking lot. The parking lot bottle necks at the entrance and can be very chaotic, especially when it gets busy. I also don't like the entrance. Turning into the park isn't a problem, but exciting is awful. I wish there was a traffic light to help control traffic, but it is a yield, right turn on a one way road onto scenic highway which makes exiting difficult, especially since you have to cross 2 lanes to get to the u-turn, about 1000 feet away. Scenic highway is a very busy intersection and the traffic is coming down a hill at a slightly blocked sight line so as you turn there is a good chance a car is speeding over the bend and might not see you. Please be careful! The park is gorgeous and a great place to spend an afternoon. I love coming here with my family and as soon as the county fixes the entrance, this will be the best park...
Read moreRarely do I give 5 stars because nothing/no one is perfect, but since the renovations to this park, its damn near close...The walking trails have been expanded, there are two or three large playgrounds for kids, areas for small kids to ride their bikes, an area to actually fish(bring your fishing gear!) and a very large grassy area to run and play or even have a game of kickball or soccer or have a picnic or just rest in the shade. There is an abundance of benches and the atmosphere is very, very family oriented...I will mention an incident that happened today, my children and grandchildren were sitting at a table getting ready to have lunch. There was a 12/13 year old Hispanic boy and mother sitting at the other table...I need to mention that there are areas for basketball playing, but this child kept bouncing that loud basketball right near our table, I asked him politely to stop. He did, but his Mom shouted "This is a public place and he can do whatever he wants to do..." Honestly, I was taken back by her behavior, I understood that its a public place, but that does not give me or anyone else to infringe on the rights or peacefulness of others that are trying to enjoy the amenities... Then again, maybe I was wrong, seems like alot of people do not care about manners or...
