Our family's recent trip to the World War II Home Front Museum in St. Simons was both enlightening and moving. Thanks to Google Maps, we were effortlessly directed to this gem, tucked away in the beautiful Coastal Georgia landscape.
The museum provides a fascinating insight into the lives of everyday Americans during the turbulent years of World War II. What resonated most with us as a Georgia family was the focus on the local community's role in wartime efforts, such as shipbuilding and coastal defense.
The interactive exhibits were engaging for both adults and children, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the stories of the brave men and women of that era. Google Maps enhanced our experience by providing additional context, like nearby historical landmarks, further connecting us to St. Simons' wartime past.
The staff were knowledgeable, and the museum's design allowed for an easy flow from one exhibit to another. The integration of Google Maps with our visit made our day smooth and enriching, bridging the gap between history and modern technology.
Visiting the World War II Home Front Museum was not merely a sightseeing activity but a deeply reflective experience about our shared past, and Google Maps was the perfect companion on this...
Read moreTruly a DIAMOND! I've lived in GA most of my 50 years and had NO IDEA how much the state was directly involved in WWII. We visited in early March as part of a day out while on our 30th anniversary trip. As a matter of fact, we're driving back down this weekend because my son starts the "Georgia's involvement in WWII" portion of his 8th grade Ga History class when he returns to school from spring break. We feel strongly, he needs to experience this place. All of the above being said, PLEASE do me a favor! PLEASE DO NOT try to haggle on the admission price! The day we were there a lady was trying to get a "group rate" for her party of four and THEN tried to get a discount since she worked at a museum somewhere else. This kinda surprised me given that I'd think she would know, if she's a museum employee, that the little extra admission price helps ACTUALLY KEEP THESE PLACES OPEN! Skip the appetizer and help a...
Read moreThis museum was pretty cool. I am really interested in World War 2 and had a really good time learning about the war and how it affected the local area. It had some nice interactive stuff for kids, a decent little video, and some nice information. The staff were all friendly and I learned a lot. The only complaint I have is there were a lot of other tourists, and the rooms were fairly small so I couldn't see everything as lots of the rooms were completely full. Also, if you're gonna go here or to the lighthouse, you can buy a combination ticket at the WW2 museum for 20 dollars to get into both museums instead of 12 dollars per individual museum. Just a little tip I wasn't aware of...
