I feel bad rating 3 stars as I have grown up on SSI and have always loved Crab Trap. However, the service we experienced from the hostesses was absolutely terrible. For a business celebrating 50 years, protect your business and make sure your staff aren’t pushing customers away. For context:
We came here Saturday of MDW. We got on the list right at 7 pm and was told it would be a 30-45 minute wait. It ended up being a 1 hr and 45+ minute wait. After about an hour, we checked on our table. We had a 2 year old with us and would have gone somewhere else had we known the wait time wasn’t accurate. When we asked, they told us 20 more minutes…okay…? So we waited 20 more…25 more pass and we ask again. Very vague response and said it would be “soon”? Okay???? At this point we were all really annoyed and hungry. Finally, we were seated at 8:46. The more frustrating part? We were finished before 9:30! Our waitress’ service was very efficient and great. The food was great! But that made our wait time even crazier. It clarified that it was not the kitchen, not the waiters, but literally the hosts not knowing how to give a proper estimate. I know there was a manager there too with it being a holiday weekend. Although the food was yummy, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I probably will not go back for a while. Please teach your hostesses how to give a proper wait time estimate or pay more attention to what they’re telling your customers. When we walked in and got on the list, we saw a woman complaining to them and thought she was just being crazy but little did we know that we’d be just as frustrated...
Read moreThis is the first time I have ever posted a bad review for any business. We decided to take a trip to St. Simons island as we have not gone anywhere other than the grocery store and work since COVID began. We planned on eating only in our condo, as we do not feel comfortable eating in restaurants yet. However, I googled curbside pickup and found The Crab Trap. Last night I ordered online, was given a time in 45 minutes for pick up, and pulled into a curbside spot right at pickup time. I had given a description of my vehicle with my online order. I waited, nobody came, so I called. A young girl answered and told me I should come inside and pickup and pay. I told her I have not been inside a restaurant in over 3 months and that was why I did curbside. Very upset I had to go into a different restaurant when I thought I was doing curbside, I walked in, there were two very young women and a young man standing behind the register with their masks sitting on their chins not covering their mouths or noses. They were not helping any other guests, so I am not sure why (with three of them just standing there)they were not able to do curbside for a curbside order. I paid and they had my bag sitting there. I had a large order all put into one paper bag. I walked out to my car and as I was getting in, the back broke and most of our dinner ended up busted open in the parking lot. I was so upset about the whole experience, I just took the little bit of my order that didn’t end up on the ground and we ate what was left when we got back to our condo. It was a...
Read moreDuring our recent visit to Jekyll and St. Simons, we stumbled upon The Crab Trap and were pleasantly surprised by our dining experience. It quickly became a standout among the places we ate during our trip.
The atmosphere at The Crab Trap was relaxed and inviting, perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. While it didn't boast any extravagant decor, the coastal charm added a nice touch to the dining ambiance.
Now, onto the food. We found the dishes at The Crab Trap to be quite enjoyable, with a decent variety to choose from. While not every dish was a culinary masterpiece, the seafood was fresh, and the flavors were generally satisfying. The menu catered well to seafood lovers, although there were options available for those with different preferences.
One aspect that stood out was the service. The staff at The Crab Trap were friendly and attentive, making sure our needs were promptly addressed throughout our meal. Their hospitality added to the overall positive dining experience.
In summary, while The Crab Trap may not be the most extravagant dining spot in the area, it certainly offers a pleasant atmosphere, decent food, and attentive service. If you're looking for a relaxed dining experience while visiting Jekyll and St. Simons, The Crab Trap is worth...
