I am a resident of Glendale Heights of long standing, 50 years, and I know Glenside Library as much as I take pride in it, its collection, its ambience, its rich offerings, its friendly, helpful staff. Circulation and Reference are the public face of any library, and these two departments at Glenside leave little to be desired. If you use the computers and hit a snag, you may expect the most cordial and thorough assistance. I would be amiss if I did not mention two young guys in Reference, Dave and Ryan, who would go out of their way to be helpful. This is not to imply the rest of the staff impress me less. I just can’t recall all the names. Ryan organizes treats for patrons in the form of evening (and occasionally weekend daytime) free programs where experts in various specialties give informative and fascinating presentations or performances on almost any topic you can imagine: cooking, astronomy, music, ghost houses, Shakespeare, birds, history, you name it. This library is truly the pride of...
Read moreWhile the library and staff itself is superb, the fact that parents dump their undisciplined children at this library ruins any adult experience. The children often act like children ; however in the teen and adult sections of the library. Without any adult supervision, the job of monitoring those children fall unto the library staff. While you can study in the corner of the library, if you wish to use any device of any sort, you will be in a section near loud and obnoxious children. While I have not personally been distraught by the teenagers in the library, there seems to be inappropriate behavior going on. Sadly it seems a library is no longer a place of learning; but a "hangout area". I hope in the future, the staff will be more strict towards inappropriate actions conducted by any offenders and keep young children in the children area of the library. Honestly, I love this library and just get annoyed when people disregard basic...
Read moreLibrary is extremely resourceful. They offer outstanding programs for patrons, and will help you submit passport applications, & staff are resourceful, friendly, and committed. Out of Glen Ellyn Library, Carol Stream Library, Downers Grove Library, Warrenville Library, & Lombard Library - Glenside Library is the only one so far that I've found offering/providing free printing up to 50 pages! After 50 pages a 10cent charge. Which is an excellent service which should be offered at other Libraries. The only complaint is the bathrooms which consistently smell and should be checked for cleaning or attended to throughout the day every 4 hours or so. Also some of the programs are restricted to a certain age group & after inquiring if certain programs can be opened up to multiple age groups, sadly was informed no. Otherwise...
