Worse than an amateur. I'm an amateur who put a rare early 80s bass guitar together with parts bought for that guitar on ebay. The bass is gradually going up in cost with some over $1500. I put the guitar together to help preserve this rare Peavey bass guitar. Unfortunately - brought my bass guitar to tonecrafte luthiery (George LOL) for a set up. George said he heard a "hum" (on his amp) so I reluctantly agreed to let him repair it. After 10 WEEKS - yes I said 10 WEEKS. I was determined to rescue my bass and went to his house to pick it up - after 10 WEEKS. I paid him for his (butchery) work. He gave me the guitar back and explained he lost one of the humbucker adjusting screws. (Strike One) I gave him $100 for his "work" not knowing that kind of work he did. I just wanted the bass back. I had some spare screws from buying the exact parts on Ebay - and when I got home I tried to adjust the humbucker, but I wasn't able to "screw" it in place. In short the humbucker height was not fully able to be adjusted. Frustrated by this, I decided to remove the pickguard and took the humbucker out of the guitar body. I found the problem. Our chain smoking friend, somehow - "MELTED" - yes, "MELTED" - the ABS bracket where the screw was too short to reach the melted bracket. Strike Two. He also CUT the wires connecting the pots to the humbuckers - probably in search of that "hum". He "CUT" the wires - not unsoldering them as he should've. Strike Three! Fortunately, I was able to melt the humbucker bracket back into its original shape with a soldering iron. (Ever hear of a soldering iron George? Try using one sometime.) I also untwisted "pigtailed" wires (amateurish) he cut and re-soldered them with a shrink tubing. The people commenting here are obviously - his friends - who never try to repair anything on their own guitars otherwise they would find that this clown is butchering their guitars. "NEVER AGAIN" FOR THIS GUY. I clearly made the wrong choice and wasted $100 in the...
Read moreAlright where do I even begin. I got a ES-335 style kit guitar for Christmas that I was struggling to put together. I decided to reach out to a professional to ask some questions. I randomly picked Tonecrafte and called him. He helped me out with what I needed and then some. We got on the topic of finishing work and how difficult it could be. I decided to let him do the finishing work for me. I could not be happier with how this thing looks. It’s gorgeous. It’s exactly how I pictured it in my head. I just love it. Then he offered to put the rest of the guitar together for me (which I originally insisted on because I wanted to do it myself, but then I realized I was messing it up, so I took him up on the offer 😂) I dropped it back off to him and I’m even more impressed. He had me stay for a bit when I dropped it off so I could learn from him and watch what he was doing. I left it with him for some finishing touches. I picked it up a couple days ago and now I cannot put it down. This is my favorite guitar. He did set up for me, polished the frets, and then some. This thing is a beast. He did such an incredible job on this guitar. I will confidently put this up against a real Gibson ES-335. Sound wise and playability this thing is top notch, all thanks to him. Also i have to mention all throughout the process he was sharing his wealth of knowledge with each question I asked. I could probably open my own shop with all the tips and tricks and things he’s taught me - lol. I even texted him about some other guitars I was messing with at the time, and he took the time to answer me, find wiring diagrams for me, and look at parts on the internet to make sure they were correct. This dude is a perfectionist. Please bring your guitars to him. You won’t regret it. Thanks...
Read moreI came across Tonecrafte Luthiery on a Facebook page. I was in the market to tune up my Nashville Telecaster. Looking especially for pickups. After messaging with George I started to realize this man knows what he is talking about. Now I have purchased and installed Lollar pickups in a strat and was happy but they are a small investment for a musician. George made sure he understood what I wanted this Tele to sound like and went to work on whatever magic he does.. He stayed in contact after I sent the payment, with every step of the process. Thru issues with shipping and supply chain he made me 3 pickups rather quickly. I received them in safe packaging with everything I would need to install them. His work is comparable to Lollar, Fralin, or any high end Seymore Duncan out there. I am extremely happy with my decision to do business with George and his company So instead of taking your business to the big box stores, take a minute to check out Tonecrafte and I am absolutely confident you will be extremely pleased you did Disclaimer.... I am a real customer. I am not...
