Lookout Mountain in Golden, Colorado, is more than the Buffalo Bill Grave and Museum. Of course, that is the major attraction, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Colorado. But while you are visiting Lookout Mountain, be sure to discover Lookout Mountain Nature Center, where nature's riches abound and where curiosity and exploration are always rewarded. Admission is free. The 110-acre preserve includes 1.5 miles of trails through the forest and meadow. The center features exhibits about indigenous plants and animals as well as a discovery room for kids. Some exhibits depict migrating birds and reveal secrets of the ponderosa pine forest. Visit the Discovery Corner and Observation Room. Stroll trails winding through forest and meadow, picnic beneath towering pine trees or join a naturalist-guided program. The mountain-top oasis offers panoramic views of the Denver metropolitan area. The 110 acres provide habitat for black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, mule deer, elk and Abert's squirrels. Wildflowers abound in the warmer months. The trails are open to hikers, snowshoers and cross-country skiers. To access the park, take exit 254 off I-70 East or exit 256 off I-70 West and follow the signs to 910 Colorow Road and Lookout Mountain Nature Center. If you want to soak up some beautiful landscape and learn about local wildlife and nature and experience some spectacular views, this is a very good...
Read moreSAVED MY DOG'S LIFE! I have to leave a review for the wonderful staff on duty on 7/18/20. Two individuals by the names of Heidi and Sylvan. Both of these park staff members went above and beyond to help me out of a bad situation. My 5-yr old french bulldog Manny was very overheated. We had taken a very short walk, but regardless his body was thrown into a "overheated" episode. I had him in my arms and rushed to the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. He could not breath and was gasping for air, terrifying to experience. Both staff members quickly responded, providing me with cold water, wet towels, and the knowledge in what to do (it was not a "just give your dog water" situation). After 15 mins of continued emergency response our dog was able to recover well enough for us to get him to our veterinarian for an IV. I greatly appreciate the help from both of these staff members and I hope that managing staff and visitors to this park know that good people are all around them. In our case it truly made a difference. I never saw my dog in that condition and he would not have survived had it not been for their quick reaction. THANK YOU THANK YOU...
Read moreLookout Mountain is a beautiful area atop a mountain overlooking Golden Colorado. There are trails that wrap the outer ring of the mountain that you can hike in order to capture that "Lookout" scenic view of the lower area of the Colorado land. Atop the mountain is plenty of parking. Two main features of this place is one, the Boettcher Mansion and two is Lookout Mountain Nature Center. The Mansion is a really comfortable and beautiful home that was privately occupied for many years before it was donated to Jefferson County by it's last owner. The atmosphere there is very relaxing from being surrounded by beautiful tall trees that go on as far as one can see. The nature center is a beautiful built building that surely is full of good information and probably worth visiting. Unfortunately it was closed when we were there. Had other plans and couldn't stay till 10am to visit inside. My wife and I were just passing by on I-70 when I noticed the "Lookout Mountain" sign and exit. We stopped in on an unplanned whim and by all means we're not...
