I was SO excited to finally have a little cafe and bakery up on Lookout Mountain. Sadly this place is super disappointing.
The croissants are more like bread rolls with a few flakes on the outside. The quiche is basically a schmear of goat cheese with a thin egg layer. The goat cheese overwhelmed so it’s really all you taste. The choux pastries are tasty, though. I guess I understand why the prices are low though: you get what you pay for.
The service was…odd. I think they need more training as the guy didn’t appear to know what an iced Americano was, despite that being a very basic drink. He then proceeded to explain to me what an Americano was as if to suggest making it iced was unusual or complicated. Which…it’s not. He also declined to warm the croissant because it was “right out of the oven.” Readers, it was room temperature. The chocolate inside was fully solid. Despite all that, he was friendly and efficient, so met base line service expectations.
So all in all this place is a huge disappointment. But hey, I guess it’s here! So two stars mostly for location, price, and serviceable quality. If it were literally anywhere else I would have no interest in going...
Read moreI've been riding past this place since they opened. My habit lately is to ride Lookout Mtn on a Monday, and they're closed. But I finally managed to stop in yesterday and man does this place have the goods. We showed up quite late, the pastries nearly cleared out, but we managed to get croissants. Here's the thing: a proper croissant is not gigantic. It is small, if you are hungry you eat two of them. It should be crispy and flaky and the outside butter creating a combo of flavor and texture that is indescribably perfect. A huge USA-style croissant simply cannot pack that same punch. Et Voilà DELIVERS. I think these croissants had been on the counter for at least 5 hours and they still had all the crispy, crunchy exterior, with a soft, layered, buttery center. They were without a doubt the best croissants I've ever had in the US. I can't wait to go back and check out the other offerings. This place is LEGIT. Top...
Read moreFirst off, reading the 1–3 star reviews genuinely made me laugh. One person claimed us 5-star folks must have never tried a croissant before and then proceeded to explain to a French café how to make one. It blows my mind how people treat Google reviews 🤦♀️
That said, the real reason I’m here: every item we ordered hit the mark, and we left genuinely pleased. I’ve worked in high-end French restaurants and have tried a wide range of French pastries over the years, so I say this with some experience… they’re doing it right here and my lemon tart truly made my day ☺️
More importantly, everyone working was kind and thoughtful, taking the time to explain each item. I love when a place is full of heart and you can feel that here. It was a perfect start to my morning in a beautiful part of...
