This was the most terrible museum ever. They close way too early and the views are not that great. There was and is construction all the way up the mountain and in the line of the views. We were there an hour before they closed and was rushed through the entire thing. The museum was small and we did not know what way to go inside. Also we could not find the grave and left and got halfway down the mountain and then decided to retry and thats where we found some kids and they told us it was a hike up the hill next to the museums gift shop. I wish the staff would have told us about the grave. We did not know that, also the gift shop was closed and under construction. Then, they had machine horses inside the museum and my gf wanted to get a picture on it and this guy comes up to us and says 100lb limit and looks right at my gf and says it a second time pointing to the sign. He and his wife were just on them and they were well over 100lbs. How rude of people to say things like that. That comment made my gf feel so bad about herself and that she could not believe that I was dating someone like her. Our experience was ruined after that comment. I would really appreciate it if the museum would refund our tickets for this behavior and for being rushed. Please refund our tickets and...
Read moreWhile visiting Denver area, we made the short drive out to Golden, to see Lookout Mountain and the Buffalo Bill Museum. The Museum itself is located on the very top of the mountain, it has beautiful views, and the gravesite to Bill is beautiful.
This could easily take up a good few hours of your day, making it a great tourist place. Even if you do not want to pay the cheap $5.00 per person to go in the actual museum (which is worth the $5.00 by the way) you still get to do a lot up here for free if you skip the museum- they have a nice viewing area with telescopes which makes great photo chances.
Buffalo Bills grave is a nice walk from the parking area, which is also free. Don't forget there AMAZING gift shop and cafe. The gift shop is one of the largest I have ever been in- and I'm a huge gift shop fan! The gift shop is so large it has many rooms and areas to see- with every knick nack under the sun, and lots of Colorado souvenirs- I think I found a gift for everyone in my family in this shop alone.
Take the trip up to here. You can enjoy the views, get something to eat, shop the gift shop, see the actual famous grave, and go in the museum itself that has lots of info and things to view about life in America in the late 1800's. SO glad...
Read moreThe Buffalo Bill museum is a great place to learn about the history of William F. Cody. Pioneer, frontiersman, buffalo hunter, and metal of honor recipient of the US Army. But he is best known for the creation of his wild west show. A traveling circus like performance that included sharp shooting acts and reenactments of other episodic events that occurred during Cody's youth. The museum is filled with historic photographs and other memorabilia that shine a light on what life was like back in the late 1800s. Along with the museum is a gift shop, a small café to grab a quick bite to eat and small walk from the parking lot is the grave site of Mr Cody and his wife. If you're lucky, you'll be able to hear a tale of how and why the grave was placed on this spot and all the controversy surrounding it. The museum volunteer did a wonderful job of engaging a captive audience with the time of how Cody's body was stolen from the mortuary and taken across state lines. The museum is next to a very scenic park on top of Lookout Mountain with overviews of Golden,...
