Wild West History

I had the chance to visit Buffalo Bil''s Grave and Museum during a trip to the Golden area. Always a fan of the Wild West, getting a chance to visit this place was just great timing. I was heading up the Lookout Mountain Park to hike and hang out and discovered that Buffalo Bill's Grave and Museum is there too. What better place for a final resting place than on that perfect spot on the mountian.

The Museum is a really great spot to check out and it is full of history and interesting facts about Buffalo Bill and the West and the area in general. There is a film you can watch, some interesting and interactive activities and many, many relics of the past. Just a short review here as I put the camera away so I could truly just enjoy the exhibits...

Nothing at all against Buffalo Bill's grave itself, because it is worth the effort, just for the history (depending on your viewpoint), majestic views and the grave itself is quite nice with all the quartz. THE SHOP, itself, has declined over the years--service is almost non-existent. On a very non-busy day, waited at least 10 minutes for a staff to show up at the jewelry counter and then staff was unfriendly. Staff do not seem to be known for being friendly or even helpful here (we go quite often as we are local). Pick up your game before the Denver Parks comes up with an idea to have some others run this...

Very unique Colorado spot! I grew up with my dad taking my brother and I here. Back in the day they had Johnny Rio which was our favorite. He was an animated character machine. You could put a quarter in him, and he would talk to you and then you would get a chance to draw your pistol and fire it in an attempt to beat him in a shoot out. I wish they wouldn’t have taken him out of the gift shop. The museum is cool and interesting giving you a glimpse into who Buffalo Bill was. It’s not very big, but a great learning experience non the less. It’s right on the lariat loop and perfect place to stop if you’re...

My wife and I had the chance to visit Buffalo Bill’s Grave during a trip to the Golden area. The drive up to Lookout Mountain was fun, full of curves and sharing the road with so many friendly bikers. Love that about Colorado. Parking was easy and it is a short uphill hike to the grave. It is accessible as well which always makes me happy. What better place for a final resting place than on that perfect spot on the mountian. We didn’t know there was so much drama and controversy about his death and burial.
