I am a Hilton Honors member and a Friends and Family member. I have stayed at various Hiltons in the Pittsburgh area and this hotel does not meet Hilton standards. That's my personal opinion. It is outdated. I stayed here 10 years ago and the hotel was fine. Since then it has declined tremendously.
I selected it because I remembered it being a nice hotel with an outdoor pool close to the city and I had friends meeting me there. I feel terrible about recommending it. I agree with the reviews about the location but it's close to city. No where to walk to for food or entertainment... but I knew that.
Check in was fine. The lady at the desk was quick and helpful. She even changed our room for us when we mentioned the floor where our friends were staying.
I'll start with the pools and hot tub. The hot tub was out of order and was full of dark green gross water. After looking at previous reviews it appears it hasn't been functioning for quite awhile. The outdoor pool was open but when we went out to the pool there were approximately 25 children in the pool with no adult supervision. Children who were as young as 3 years old were there with life jackets on. One of the boys was floating in the pool with the rescue equipment. There was no one 16 or older. One of them told me they were having a party. There was trash everywhere. Pizza Hut boxes were floating in the pool, candy, candy wrappers. The steps into the pool were broken in the 6 foot area. There were little white pieces floating in the pool.. thousands of pieces and we couldn't figure out what they were when we got in the water. A family came down for 5 minutes and that man said he thought they were bristles from the pool cleaner that were falling out of the brush. They left because of the nasty language being used. We were in the pool about 5 minutes and we also left. I reported it to the front desk and she immediately reported the broken step to maintenence. We saw him go out they and put an orange cone there. We never went back to the pool area.
We had a room that had a toilet that never stopped running when it was flushed and a sink that drained very slow. I reported the sink problem but didn't ask for anyone to look at it. The bottom of the tub was stained. The air conditioner made loud noises off and on all night so we never slept. It looked like we had a balcony but the door wouldn't open but there was trash out there. The room was OK. It's outdated and dark and needs a good carpet cleaning. I never took off my shoes after stepping on the carpet one time. It felt sort of sticky.
There was a cleaning cart at the end of the hall for at least a day but I never saw anyone using it or cleaning personnel. There was a huge trashcan sitting in the hall leading to the lobby from the elevator but I never saw anyone using it or moving it for quite awhile.
The elevators and hallways were very hot and smelly. The gold sofas they have by the elevators need a cleaning. The upholstery is dirty and stained.
Our friends had to borrow our iron because they didn't have one and then they next morning they had to borrow our hair dryer because theirs was broken.
We went to the bar Friday night. The table we sat at was sticky. They put a paper menu down and it stuck to the table so we left and ate at Vincent's up the road from the hotel. We came back to the bar and it appeared that 3 men were playing poker at a table in the back of the restaurant. The draft beer machines weren't working. The glass of beer was mainly foam so I opted to just have a water while we waited for our friends to arrive but they continued to take orders for draft beer.
There were apparently no ice machines working. We saw the same man in the elevator going floor to floor looking for ice.
They did have a very large room with workout machines and other equipment. We didn't use it so I'm not sure if it worked or not.
Don't stay here. There are clean, functional Hilton hotels 10 miles...
Read moreThis past weekend (June 2021), we experienced quite possibly the most disappointing stay at a Hilton property that we’ve ever had at this hotel. The staff at this property demonstrated a complete lack of regard for their guests’ concerns and we can easily say that we will never return to this property nor would we recommend that anyone else stay here.
(Before I get into things, please also let the record reflect that my husband and I are not typically the nitpick-everything kind of people who often write negative hotel reviews, but when a hotel property’s staff cannot employ even the most basic customer service standards we feel that people deserve to know.)
The short story is that we, along with our daughter, waited over 2 HOURS for pool towels between 8-10 AM this past Saturday morning. This was after a total of 4 attempts in that 2-hour span to request them directly from the front desk, by 3 different people (including 1 person not in our party). 3 of those 4 attempts were made soaking wet, dripping as we walked from the pool to the front desk, only to be told by the front desk supervisor that she would call housekeeping again to bring some to us. In each instance, no timeframe given and worse, absolutely no apology or even acknowledgement of our inconvenience. A simple “I’m sorry” would have helped. When the towels finally came 2 hours after our first request, from the housekeeping manager, he did apologize but said he told his staff to bring them down several times. Frustrating yes, because having managed people ourselves we know staff don’t always do what is asked of them, but there is absolutely no excuse for making people wait 2 hours for anything as simple as towels in a hotel. The management really dropped the ball here.
Beyond the pool, we encountered several other issues that were disappointing for a Hilton property. A gummy fruit snack embedded in the seat of the chair in our room, obvious duvet cover stains, carpet in our room that looked as though it hadn’t been vacuumed well prior to our arrival if at all, and no explanation of any property amenities (breakfast, pool hours, etc.) upon check-in. All small things on their own, but when considered together really made us question the management’s concern for its property or guests.
To add insult to injury, when there’s a sign in your elevators telling guests to let you know if something isn’t right with your stay and you'll make it better, and such little effort to do so is actually shown, it just made things that much more frustrating for us.
All in all, this stay was about as far from one on a Hilton property as we could have expected. We recently became Diamond members and having had several other great recent experiences at other Hilton properties around the country, we know this latest one was probably the exception rather than the norm. However, we do not plan to return to this property and wanted other people to be aware of what we encountered there.
Last note: we submitted a formal complaint to Hilton Corporate on Sunday evening (of the day we checked out). It is now Tuesday afternoon and still have yet to receive an email or phone call acknowledging our...
Read moreWe are extremely disappointed in Hilton for allowing the kind of experience that we had this past July. And, I must say, that this is the second Hilton we have stayed at recently with property that is not taken care of. What is going on with them? We went as part of a very large reunion (300+) of veterans, most of them in their 70s and 80s, and although the reunion was spaced over a period of 4 days the accommodations were less than stellar, with no concern from management. For starters, the woman who checked us in was very rude. When we got to our room we discovered that is was a queen, and not the king that we had reserved months in advance. When we inquired about it we were told by this same woman that too bad, they didn’t have any kings. She passed us off to another woman who immediately found us a room, although the cold water in the bathroom never was cold, it was always luke warm. In talking to other guests many of them also stated that they had booked king rooms and none of them got what they had reserved. We all found in loading luggage and the many boxes and items required for a party that large that ALL of the luggage carts had flat tires. When we approached maintenance about that they said yes, they knew, and continued walking. My husband offered to help fill them with air but they refused his help and for the rest of the week they remained flat. For70 and 80 year olds to be pushing and pulling carts with flat tires is unthinkable! In addition, ALL of the restrooms on the first floor had out of order signs on them. All of the family restrooms were completely closed and locked with out of order signs and all of the rest of the men’s and women’s restrooms had at least one stall or urinal closed with out of order signs in each one. It’s not like 1or2 went out and they were waiting for a plumber, they were out all week! Our association had booked one of the large meeting rooms as a hospitality suite for the 4 days that we all were there and the air conditioning in that room never worked. It was 90 degrees outside and the same in. The hotel never did fix it and we had to go out and buy fans to help cool the room. All in all, many of us thought that although we were a very large party and brought in a lot of money for them that management had a very...
