Someone else described this as a mini SC State Museum and that's a very apt description! The main floor is like a 1900's town street, with a movie theater, train station, dress shop, blacksmith and more. It's a great place for kids to play dress up or with the wooden train set. Upstairs has an art gallery, a geology display complete with a "mine shaft", indigenous artifacts, and a natural history (taxidermied animals) section. Downstairs is more local industry history - did you know robotic arms were made here?? And in the entrance right as you walk in is a changing display, currently about local historically black universities. For free, it's an amazing museum, and great for families with small kids! Folks at the front desk are friendly and helpful and it's overall a lot of fun. It took me about a hour to see everything.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience in this free (donation run) museum. It is split into 3 levels. The ground floor has the old main street set up with stores, and school house, and movie theater as well as a history of the area from early times to industrial age and beyond. The top floor is mostly about electricity and it has a good amount of interactive exhibits. The top floor also has minerals, wildlife, indigenous Americans, and the dolls. The bottom floor has a variety of items on display. Going from space items, to a robotic arm, to bank vaults or safes, to a replica kitchen. It does have a musty smell for those that may have allergies, but the exhibit in the basement did not take as much time as the ground or 2nd floor.

This experience was overall great! They have attractions for all ages, with free admission. However, I know that the staff works hard to keep this lovely setting operated and clean so they do accept donations. This is located in beautiful downtown Greenwood and allows you to dip into the culture a little bit. A must see whether its a summer adventure for the locals or a touristy-stop in. Can't go wrong!

Great place to learn about Greenwood's history. Great place to bring the Younglings. They even have a separate room where younglings can play with a train set. And also a dinosaur exhibit where younglings can go through a maze and dig up dinosaur bones. A lot has changed in the 30 years that I've known that museum not as many exhibits as there as there used to be and the basement is no longer open. I look forward to see them expand more of the exhibits...
