Have been going here for the past two years..I LOVE this place. It may not have the highest walls, or the best (actually kind of lacking) training area. But, the staff is the best and super into climbing. I have taken several lessons hosted by the staff member to improve my technique and have improved drastically as a result. The routes can be challenging (and they are the opposite of soft-balled with rating) a 5.10 can easily be 5.11 or 5.12 depending. But the whole 5.XX system is contrived anyway. So be aware that the grades are hard grades. A lot of auto-belay areas for single climbing, well positioned lead-cave, lots of anchors for leading in other areas and a small but challenging bouldering cave. Having come here for so long has given me insight into why people get so into climbing, it's not just the sport..it's the people/community. Mike, Angela, Steve, Brendan, Nate, Kyle, Alex and all the other great staff all deserve a standing ovation for their dedication to their family (customers &...
Read moreRockville is an institution. I've been climbing there ever since I climbed for the first time in 2012. The staff is lovely and helpful and knowledgeable, the wall types are varied (slab, overhang, some more natural-looking walls) so there's always something interesting). The setters are skilled and ready to challenge you. The grading is conservative compared to other gyms I've been to, and I like it like that. The community is as awesome as the staff. There's a dedicated section for lead climbing, lots of top ropes, and lots of auto belays as well. And a bouldering cave. The merch is high quality, not that I usually care about that stuff. Buy a hoodie.
It's rugged in there, having been built in what used to be a factory. Gyms like this one are not common, even as rock climbing on the whole gets more popular. Rockville is to Gravity Vault what a local cafe is to a Starbucks....
Read moreWhat an absolutely wonderful experience had! Myself and a few friends came in right around opening and were immediately welcomed with open arms by Mike and his team. It was our first visit (and rock climbing in general) and they made us feel comfortable, confident, and ready to climb!
We were given thorough instructions on safety and etiquette, geared up, and were off! The auto-belay system was a real treat to use and I had full trust in it immediately. We tried climbs of all different difficulties, and even the bouldering! It was all extremely exciting and adrenaline pumping.
We will most DEFINITELY be returning, and I am going to spread the word about this business and how wonderful the staff was as well. I cannot reinforce that enough. Mike made us feel like regulars, gave great advice, and shared stories about his past adventures. Thank you all, and we will...
