If you like trains or if you like museum's or if you like old building's, either way you're gonna love this place. Hamlet Depot and Museum is a great place to take your kids or grandkids. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the different types of trains and how they did things back in the day. They are very interesting to talk to. My family and I went to the Hamlet Depot and Museum about 8 months ago. We were the first ones there as they were unlocking the place and the train which you can go inside and take pictures or just look around. We met one of the men who work there, his name is Sam Ballard. He was incredibly kind and very helpful and interesting. He knew about everything we were looking at, you could tell that he had done his research and any questions we had, he answered those straight away as well. He gave us a tour. I'm not sure if they do that all the time or if that's something you would have to call and schedule if you would prefer a guided tour. There are different building's that you can tour as well. In one building there is a model train set that takes up the entire large room, there is walking room of course so you can look at it. I believe it's a model of the town and where the train goes through if I'm not mistaking. Even if you're not into that sort of thing it's still pretty cool to see being it is so very large. There's also a building that has a couple of old cars in it as well as a replica of an old train, they are all something to see. All of this is absolutely free though they do take donations. There's also a gift shop. A lot of schools take field trips to the Hamlet Depot and Museum, you should come tour it as well. If you like what I had to say please let me know by hitting like. Thank...
Read moreAwesome experience! Wheelchair friendly? From what we saw, yes! Kid friendly? Absolutely. Train enthusiast friendly regardless of age? Yes! All are welcomed here, new or old.
My husband is a conductor and learned so much history from this place alone. He got to chat with a former engineer while they both exchanged railroading todays and yesterdays. His 42 year experience versus my husband's 2 year experience made for a show in itself! Respectful banter, lots of laughs and plenty of stories. Lots of love for trains over here, thats for sure. The rails next to the building are still active as well so we saw a handful of "real" trains chug by. Nothing new to us but its probably super exciting for a first time real life train seeker and a great moment for all.
This experience was extremely informative and educational. The entrance was free (but the gift shop prices make up for it.. 😅 cant complain!) Stroller friendly from what we saw (we didnt get to see everything as time was running short). Our only downfall was the hours of operation. We are here visiting from NY so our time is limited. We missed the days its opened so we had to leave with what we got which turned into about 2 hours of chatting and visiting each room.
Would definitely return and absolutely recommend to everyone with a love for trains or even for a fun "field trip"...
Read moreWhat an absolute Incredible museum !!! While visiting my Dad I just had to bring my autistic son to see a place I knew he would be intrigued with considering he LOVES trains. When I told my autistic son where we were going , My Dustin immediately threw on his Train Hat on for our special visit! P.S. His favorite room here was by far the basement where we.spent majority of our time watching the very awesome model train of the town of Hamlet and where my son was actually able to push buttons to make the trains go through the town. Ohh, and did I mention? We of course had to shop for souvenirs to take home with us. They came in handy too considering some were crafts for us to do that evening in our hotel room and Dustin made sure to wear his new hat he got here which had a ❤️ on it which he relates to because it's like our last name 😊 I also want to send a HUGE Hug & Thank you to the wonderful staff here ❣️ My Dustin can be a bit loud but even inspite of this, we were treated with that welcoming feeling my son and I are ALWAYS searching for in places we venture and of course immediately share with our followers. Hug You Soon Hamlet Depot & Museums 🤗 Angela Hart (aka)...
