I'm surprised myself that a library gets 3 stars, but it's true. The #1 reason I can't give 5 stars is because the staff we've encountered here have not been the best. One lady in particular is always extremely rude and has the worst attitude towards patrons. I just don't understand, if you hate people, then why do you work in a library? She has snapped at my son more than once for asking a simple question (he's 7, is the library not the place to go for knowledge anymore?? I didn't know asking questions was against the rules!). She slams the date stamp onto the books, most of the time missing entirely where the date SHOULD go. (When you stamp Aug 1 above July 27 and it's only July 20, I'd say that's a bit confusing). And then when they call to tell you that the book is overdue (since you don't know the actual due date) they are extremely rude and short with you. What happened to FRIENDLY reminders? People forget things, it's not like we're trying to keep the books forever, I don't understand why the phone calls have to be so rude! On top of unfriendly staff it is very odd to walk into a library and hear loud voices. Like raries are supposed to be quiet places. But apparently not Fowlerville? The employees will yell across the room to each other, or even just loudly talk at the front. It's the patrons as well, allowing their children to yell, or having loud conversations in the middle of the room. It's definitely not a normal...
Read moreLoud kids use this is as hang out afterschool, parents use it as a daycare and do not typically care about the children's noise level, staff does not do anything to enhance the library and teach the youth manners. The United Way did a study back in 2008 and followed children who did not know how to behave in libraries and museums and those children were more apt to be troubled, do poorly in school, and the long-term prediction was that the kids would have issues adjusting into productive members of society. It starts at home, I wish the Fowlerville Library was better but the serious readers typically drive up the road to the Howell Library where they enforce library manners and take it seriously. Perhaps get some people in there that have a Library Science degree and that will...
Read moreFowlerville Public Library is a terrible place is you want a quiet place to work or study. Their staff is extremely loud and gossip about situations out loud. They do not respect the people who come in for a quiet place to get information and work. I remember growing up and watching TV shows where if you barely spoke you heard "Shhhh..." from the librarian. Here at this library you are at the edge of your seat about to shhh.. them but might not because you don't want to be rude. Loud staff, small facility, and pay to print. Not a good library at all. Howell Carnegie is library is worth the drive if you want to be able to...
