I enjoy going to this library. It’s spacious, organized, and has a variety of perks for everybody. The study rooms and various study areas are what I enjoy most.
My review would’ve been a five star rating had it not been for a recent experience. Prior to this experience, I would often enter the large study room on the West wall of the library that is on the lower level without any issues. However, this time around, I decided to study in that same room since I did not need a private room at the time. The room has a new layout, including a desk for staff. The room was unlocked and accessible, and the only sign at the door was the “Quiet Study Room” sign. Five minutes into studying, multiple librarians were eyeing us as if we had committed an atrocity, making calls with other staff. We were told that we couldn’t study here cause it was only to study history and it was also somebody’s office. I did not make a fuzz. Since the room had a new layout, maybe I missed the warning sign at the door. Nope! There were no signs indicating any restrictions, and the door...
Read moreEven if you don't live in the area, it is worth a drive to visit. The library is massive, and every part of it is as well. There is a cafe section but from what I can tell it's just vending machines, but the cafe area is large and comfortable. There is a massive kids play area as well as selection of books, games, DVDs, and tablets to play on. Although a lot of the kids stuff requires a license or library card in order to play at the library and then exchange after you're done playing with it, the stuff that you don't need to 'check out' is worthwhile as well. They also have classes and many weekly or monthly activities, and although the parking lot is separate and you have to walk across the street, the parking lot itself is huge and the cross walk is extremely responsive; I've never had to wait more than a minute or two for it to go off. They also have a massive neon sign that tells you if they are open or closed so you don't have to walk across to find out. I would recommend this library to anyone who has kids or...
Read moreSince the rebuild of the building several years ago it has improved in many ways. It was fun a few years ago to hear a musician who travels the world playing slide guitar, and lives in Streamwood comment how much the library had changed for the better; offering loans of items in addition to books, magazines, audio recordings. It had 50 computers for public use instead of only 2 which were in a unusual place downstairs at the time. Not to mention all of the annual plantings around the building. And a partial green roof to help stop the constant flooding on Library lane when it rained. One downside of the remodel is that almost all parking is across the street. The village had the good scense to put in a traffic light were people can stop between both sides of Park Avenue. One other change is now the federal document library section is right by the front door. The auditorium space can easily hold two hundred people. Check out this library...
