We can't be too picky in our neighborhood, and we have to take what we can get. The nearest other Farmers Market to this one is way over in montvilla, but the atmosphere at this one is pretty good. It's laid out well, there's plenty of parking, and the produce is excellent although pretty expensive. If you get a chance, look for the guy who sells shrimp grits. He wasn't there this past weekend, but he's been there year after year for the past several years and I missed seeing him.
Update: it's now 2024, and this market is a must visit for the neighborhood. Great food, and friendly vendors.
2025: Everything's gotten crazy expensive everywhere, and this place is no different. Brought a knife down to be sharpened and while that was only five bucks, I thought I would get something to drink while I waited. $7 for an iced coffee from a tiny booth with nearly no overhead is ridiculous so I didn't pay it.
It's ridiculous at Starbucks also, and I very rarely buy anything there unless I'm traveling, but from a booth with a few carraffes of coffee? Nope.
It's not that I can't afford $7 for something to drink, it's that I think enjoyed saving the $7 more a lot more than I would have enjoyed...
Read moreI love this market, always have. With that said, I am rating 1 star for the poor advertising. The winter market is strongly marketed as being dog friendly. But, make no mistake -- it's only partially dog friendly -- dogs are only allowed outside. Alas, there's only 10 to 15 vendors outside with the vast majority (85+) of vendors inside. It's disappointing. Everything on their website and social media does not reflect this fine print. Nor was there any signage at the market reflecting this.
I work late and woke up early to take my dogs here. It doesn't sound like a big deal to most but it is for us -- we were really looking forward to it and rearranged plans to be able to be here for it. I work a lot and it was going to be a special treat. Heck, we got cash out and all.
Their rationale is because the inside area is on a gym floor and they don't want the floor damaged from dog nails. Yet, the person walking out just as we were about to walk in was earing high heels. We even had boots in the car we could have put on our dogs if that was their concern.
I strongly encouraged this farmers market to be much clearer than it is with the policy of the market being...
Read moreWhat a wonderful neighborhood localized farmers market. Very well run, very well organized, a huge variety of vendors, and a full-on food garden row with every kind of creative imaginable tasty treat. We are always on the hunt for fresh local produce and the scallions and Bermuda onions or gorgeous, the fresh greens were unbelievable.... And unlike some markets pricing was very very affordable. We got a wonderful assortment of produce a full bagful for $20 and a huge variety. We also met the pepper grinder guy and his lovely wife and bought a handmade pepper grinder that doesn't need any flipping batteries. Old school grinder beautifully crafted and a steel for 40 bucks. Very nice people as were all of the people that were there working the farmers market. Definitely will be back again and will start...
