Pendleton Park — Attraction in Harlingen

A nice city park with multiple uses. There are several different playgrounds around the park. Tennis courts and baseball fields within the park. And a hiking trail. There is also a pond and good habitat, for a park, within and around the the park.

The hiking trail can take you around the entire park with some good views of habitat around the area.

Bird wise: the park has enough habitat to offer a good amount of birds on any given day. It's a really good place for black-bellied whistling-ducks, among other ducks during winter. In addition you can get a good number of different species including:

Neotropic cormorants, american white pelicans, turkey vultures, coopers hawk, red-tailed hawk, loggerhead shrike, vermilion flycatcher, tropical kingbirds, common yellowthroat, and black-crested titmouse. Just to name a few.

In addition to the native birds you can also find domestic ducks and geese like mallards, muscovy and swan goose.

Pokemon: theres multiple gyms, pokestops, and trails...

They updated the playgrounds for this park and I have to say it looks really good not to mention for the location with it being in a major area of town and is very large. It's also the only Park or place in general I have seen in our town besides staying at a hotel that has a public pool. We aren't close to a beach so this is nice if someone wants to go swimming in the summer. The playgrounds have a really good variety to them there's lots of different activities for your kids to do. There's also tennis courts, a walk trail and outdoor exercise equipment as well which is nice to use when it's not too hot. They also do have a large indoor Center that you can host birthdays...

There is much to do here in such a compact space and even though we found it hard to find parking near the duck pond it's only a small walk away from the main parking. You'll find a fairly modern and recently built play area for children. It has a soft rubbery ground and there are no steps which for our little one is always a concern. There's even some activities like music instruments and perhaps most importantly it is a closed area with a latch that makes it all the safer.
