First time here, had a cart full of items. Get to the register, had to wait a couple minutes as the customer ahead of me was upset about not receiving a receipt and thinking she was over charged and there was a language barrier (customer spoke Spanish and employee spoke another language). The employee begins adding numbers to the calculator (no register), while another employee adds the items to the bags. I noticed the employee just tapping numbers on the calculator like Madea on “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”. I interrupted her bc I noticed she added an item multiple times and charged me a higher price for some items. She took the items out of the bag and as she started again, I also began to add up the items along with her. Again, she tried to charge me multiple times for the same item and then would laugh when I said you already added that. She kept asking where I got the Spanish pumpkin at, so she could figure out the price. I guess outside pumpkins cost less than inside pumpkins. Finally everything was bagged up and totaled about 118.00. Before giving my credit card I asked if I would be getting a receipt. She began talking to another employee in a different language and the other employee started unbagging everything saying the other employee forgot to add items and they need to add it up again correctly. I decided not to buy any of it and walked out. I am 100% sure they are overcharging customers and bc they do not give receipts, no one can prove it. With the way the economy is right now and how expensive food is, they should be ashamed of themselves scamming customers like this!! Beware if shopping here and pay close attention when paying...
Read moreThe first thing you should know is that Produce Junction is cash only. No checks or credit cards accepted.
UPDATED April 26. Found out that PJ is now accepting all credit cards except for American Express.
The store is brightly lit and seems clean enough. I do find the layout to be a bit chaotic, but easily negotiable. Some items (fruits and veg) are behind the checkout counter so if you cannot find something like onions or potatoes be sure to look behind the checkout because there are quite a few items there. If you are going to buy fruit and it is behind the counter it must be paid for separately. I find this mildly inconvenient as I do not want to stand in two lines in order to checkout twice. I love the prices of the items for sale though. For quantity you can’t beat Produce Junction. I have found the quality to be good as well overall. They have a nice cross cultural selection of vegetables and fruit as well (Latino, Asian, Indian, etc.)
They also sell flowers and flats of flowers and plants with really great prices on them as well as cut flowers and bouquets.
They have a covered garden center as well. I cannot review quality of the plants as I have never purchased any, but visually they appear healthy and insect free with lots of variety.
The people that work there are pleasant and helpful. They employ both English or Spanish speaking persons.
Overall I would recommend...
